Went to Portofino recently as I was hosting a dinner with partners. Immediately one is in the door it is apparent this is a slick operation with quality service. The Patron knows his trade and we were all settled very quickly. The atmosphere around the bar is comfortable and there is a slightly continental feel to the place with the Kitchen being visible. I always like to see this as it adds to the 'comfort' factor that the establishment is proud of its creations and has nothing to hide.
The table was dressed immaculately and the food was very good. The wine list, while extensive, is not as crazy as I have seen in some establishments and does cater to most tastes. The table service was discreet and efficient, just what one wants in such a place.
The food is as good as one can get anywhere outside of the upper level restaurants in Capital cities. I always take a discreet check on what the guests plates are like and could find no fault in cleanliness or quality of food. There was no rush about the evening at all, we left reasonably late but could have stayed longer.
All in all I would say that if one wants fine dining while on the Isle of Man this establishment is pretty much peerless.
