I was both delighted and privileged to be the first guest at the Joey Dunlop Lodge.
Visiting the Island with friends for the 2010 MGP I was able to benefit from the three bedroom upper floor apartment equipped with electric beds, hoists, superb wet room / toilets facilities, appropriately placed grabs rails, fire doors, etc....the kitchen / lounge area is ideally suited for those of us in wheelchairs - even the sink is motorised so that we are able to get our knees underneath and take our turn at doing the washing-up! Cupbourds, hob and work services are also appropriate for for those with mobility problems. This room boasts a flat screen TV, interent connection, recling chairs, etc.
The apartment is accessed by a lift which even has a telephone with an outside line in case of emergency; there is also an external staircase giving access via a balcony - the balcony gives a fine view of the motocycle racers as they enter Braddan Bridge.
The apartment sleeps six, with the smaller ones on the ground floor catering for four and two. The adjoining garage has been converted to a utility room / office; there is adequate parking at the front of the building. The main Douglas to Peel road on which the Lodge is situated gives good access to all the facilities of the Island's capital, as well as linking to other Island routes.
It is my opinion that the facility caters very well for both indiviuals and groups; I have already booked for two further visits.
The Lodge takes on the name of the finest of road racers - Joey Dunlop....it is certainly a fine tribute to his memory and achievements.
