The Manx Electric Railway is enormous fun. Many passengers board in Douglas to get to Laxey and the famous wheel. By all means stop in Laxey, but then reboard the train and continue to Ramsey. The view from the right side of the train of the coast is spectacular.
The service seems somehow less attentive than on the steam train, and Ramsey is a disappointment; a singularly unpicturesque town. Not a big deal: just get back on the train as soon as possible and return.
Each train consists of two cars: a traditional trolley-type car and an open-sided car. I rode the open-sided car on the northbound trip and switched for the return to the enclosed car.
Do some research before going to the Isle of Man. The railway company offers all sorts of special runs, such as late night trips and themed trips. Check the website.
A must if you're a train fan.
