“Fabulous vistas overlooking the ocean!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

An excellent way to get to Ramsey or Laxey from Douglas ... the views are amazing! Loved the ontime schedule, too!

“Value for money - with a period ticket.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013

If staying 3 days or more a MUST is the 3 or 5 day ticket as we used this line twice, and the Steam train twice and several buses. Reckon £39 ticket would have been nearly £70 on separate tickets! Get a time table and sit on the seaward side (right going north). Change at Laxey for the Snafell railway.

“Jewel in the Manx crown”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

The IoM is a transport enthusiast's paradise, and the MER is the star of the show. Definitely worth the trudge to the far end of the Promenade (or catch a horse tram) for a leisurely, scenic, and delightful trip the length of the east coast of the island. A marvel of Victorian engineering and enterprise, the diminutive tramway (914mm/3ft gauge) meanders through the undulating countryside with barely a straight or level section in its 17-odd miles to Ramsey. The pivotal point on the line is Laxey, worth interrupting your journey to watch the comings and goings, enhanced by it being the terminus of the Snaefell Mountain Railway. A quaint station cafe serves decent snacks, there's also a pub if you want something stronger. The landscape turns more rugged as you leave Laxey, before finally arriving at the northern outpost of Ramsey. This is where we found out that the whole island virtually shuts down on Sunday so caught the next tram back for another bout of tramway nostalgia. Perfect.

“Best way to see the Isle of Man”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2013

went from Ramsay to Douglas, it was lovely weather for an open sided Victorian tram. Coming the other way was far busier. Oh and the tram broke down for nearly an hour on the outskirts of Ramsay! we where allowed off though and a nice lady brought us squash. We also went up the mountain, this was very busy it being TT week and there being a cruise ship in the harbour. To be honest if there is a load of cruise ship passengers leave it for another day, one group were waiting nearly 2 hours at Bungalow before getting a refund.
