“very good value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2012

very friendly staff nothing to much trouble. upgraded to a double with a sea view was worth the extra money sitting in bed looking across the bay. bed very good . very good breakfast plenty of choice and freshly cooked to order. evening meal available if required and good value. ( all local produce breakfasts/evening meals). Sky tv in lounge with sports and movie channels. if required early breakfast no problem.only few mins walk to bus station and sea terminal

Room Tip: worth paying the extra for a sea room

Changed hands a few months ago.
The new owners are very friendly, approachable and helpful.
Breakfasts are very good and though we did not eat in the other guests we spoke to said it was very good.
Good location on the Promenade and when they say 5 minutes from the ferry terminal they are accurate.

My husband and I stayed at the Ellan Vannin overnight last week and can highly recommend it. Our room was chic and modern with stunning views over the bay, and a nice bathroom with lots of hot water. Paul and Pauline are working to provide five star service in a three star hotel, and succeeding. Our visit was a real treat. We walked to the Quayside and had an excellent meal watching the boats in the harbour of Old Douglas. Efficient double glazing gave us a good night's sleep in a huge comfortable bed. We had a lovely breakfast. The horse trams are a delight. You need to be able to manage stairs, but the views in the front rooms are worth it. The Ellan Vannin is an ideal place to stay for out of town manxies spending an evening in Douglas, as well as for visiting family and friends.

Room Tip: Only the front rooms have the view over the bay. Worth asking for one.

I recently stayed at the Ellan Vannin as a solo, business traveller. The hotel is in an ideal location in Douglas just a short walk away from Lord Street Bus Station and the Sea Ferry Terminal. Paul and Pauline , the proprietors of the hotel, are warm and friendly and do their best to deliver a quality service. My room was small but comfortable and clean and it was a bonus having tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The breakfast was excellent and ample portions of quality food were dished out daily.Just a small gripe about the towel changing/cleaning service because some of the towels that I had used were not cleaned satisfactorily before I received them back. However,I thoroughly recommend a stay at the Ellan Vannin - you will not be disappointed!

This B&B is in a great location - espesically if your traveling by boat as it's only a 5min walk from the ferry terminal. The B&B is facing the prom/sea front and depending on what time of year your there, you can hop on the horse & tram which will bring you right down to the other end of the prom. The street behind the B&B is the main shopping street in Douglas and has TK Maxx, M&S, Boots, a couple of the main high street fashion shops as well as she local manx shops and souvenir shops.

A 5 minute walk in one direction will bring you past the ferry terminal and to the marina. There are some nice bars and restaurants around this area. The bus terminus for the island is in this area also. A 5 min walk in the oppisite direction will bring you down towards the manx heritage museum, gaeity theater and vila marina.

The B&B has a lot of steps and stairs and to the best of my knowledge doesn't have a lift. When we were there they did accommodate a family and an older guest on the 1st floor so they only had one set of stairs to climb but as I was on the 5th floor I had 5 - which wasn't a problem after the initial shock of nearly having a heart attack going up them!

The rooms are bright and efficient for a B&B. There was tea/coffee making facilities, tv, hair dryer, en-suite , fresh towels daily etc. The breakfast was freshly cooked to order and had everything from Manx Kippers to a regular full breakfast. The breakfast room is in a bright room (natural light) in the basement so again it's another set of stairs.

Over all this B&B has a great location, nice rooms and a good home cooked breakfast - what more can you ask for ?

Room Tip: There are only a limited number of sea view rooms so if you really want one, book early!
