“Very comfortable - Very friendly - Great value..”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2012

A 3 day weekend break on this lovely island was made even more enjoyable by the friendliness of the staff, from the moment we arrived, to the morning we departed. All our rooms were most comfortable and the breakfasts were a delight. The addition of 2 hand pumps of local real ale, plus, at the time of our visit, a cask of Bosun Bitter from the Shore Hotel in Laxey only added to the charms of the Mereside.
Our only criticism and this is meant in a positive way, was the price of the evening meals. Whilst they sounded wonderful from the menu, the pricing was considerably higher than in other establishments. Perhaps if there had been a discount for residents, we may have indulged.
We will be returning and, next time look forward to the views from the front bedrooms..

Friendly people. Nice, well presented, clean, though not huge, rooms. Good in-room wifi. Great breakfast. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

This hotel ione of the best my husband and I have ever stopped at. The staff were always there to help and the food was second to none I would highly recomend this hotel and the restaurant. The room was small but clean and comfortable.

I'm writing my first review on Trip Advisor because I'd like to recommend the Mereside.
We (a young couple) were literally delighted to stay in the executive room there.
The place is clean and the room excellent: large, very beautiful and comfortable.
It's close to the promenade, thus being very practical for taking many bus lines or choosing the steam/electric railway.
Breakfast is amazing, it deserves its reputation (found on the official guide of the Isle of Man)! Kippers, salmon, eggs, sausages, toasted bread, yogurt, tea and coffee, fruits, jams, peanut butter, cereals... simply everything.
The quality of the restaurant is very good too.
Oh, and the free Wi-Fi in the room makes it perfect :)
The staff is very professional and so friendly! I think they could teach a lot to the staff of many hotels.
So, many thanks to everyone for making our short holiday (5 nights) even more pleasant :)
We had chosen a 4-star hotel before and there were strange problems with the booking, so we changed our mind and chose this guest house, being very happy about the change then :)
We really hope to go there again in the future: the Isle of Man is very relaxing and fantastic for those who love nature and walking, avoiding mass tourism. Besides, people there are very friendly and helpful, definitely lovely!

We booked a night here as a treat for going to a show at the villa.
Rooms was lovely, clean, warm and comfortable. Lift available to floors for those with walking difficulties. Room had tea, coffee, hot chocolateand kettle , even a nice pack of bisuicts. Room was nice and warm, it had a large bathroom. The bed was a real sink into one, which meant the reluctance to get out of!
Staff were warm and welcoming. We had eaten here on a couple of occassions, at christmas, evening meal and sunday lunce and on each occassion food was faultless and YET again food and service good not be faulted. The only negativity was breakfast (on sunday morning) was served between 7am-9am which meant an early rise, but food was worth the early rise on this occassion.

Lovely staff, spotless rooms and great breakfast! Room was small but not any smaller than other b&b's I've stayed in. Was big enough for the two of us and the bed was so warm and cosy we didn't want to get out of it :) Was worth every penny and we will definately be staying again when we go back to Douglas!

Just back from a trip to the Isle of Man. We combed through the various different sites and found to our liking the Mereside hotel/guesthouse and judging from the great reviews and photographs we booked this hotel/guesthouse. Yes we agree it's clean and the breakfast is good but that's the standard you would expect when you are a paying guest. The rooms are not the same as the photos displayed. Our room was cramped. The oversized en-suite took over the room leaving us with a small 'L shape' to move around. The matrass was very soft and sank in the middle. On the positive side the hotel/ghouse it is in a quiet location It was just basic and clean and the breakfast was good. The staff and owners were polite and friendly. It wasn't worth what we paid and it would not entice us make a return stay.
What I would like to know is (1) What has happened to Douglas? (2) Why is it such an expensive place to visit and why is it so shabby and run down? (3) Why does everything close down early for supposedly a holiday destination and (4) Why isn't there any decent place to eat especially in Douglas? The restaurants leaves a lot to be desired and believe me we walked miles on our three night stay to get a decent reasonably priced three course meal. The menus in our hotel and indeed the other hotels were overpriced and beyond our budget i.e. a starter costing £7.
The Electric and Steam Railway experience was great. We were ripped off in the Railway Cafe it cost £4.95 each for a coffee and scone and it was self service. The horse drawn tram up and down the prominade was very pleasant also eventhough the conducter was a bit gruff with us for some reason.

Room Tip: don't be fooled by the photographs of beautifully decorated rooms, ask to see the rooms first if...
