Sorry for the late reply but yours slipped the net!
Thanks for the great review and we are pleased that your family had a most excellent holiday with us and on the Island.
Although we only do B & B in August, we are glad you enjoyed our hearty breakfast to set you up for the day.
Look forward to seeing you again when you do return
Best Wishes

Our September break at Swiss Cottage was a wonderful experience! We had an attractive room with a well stocked hospitality tray, replenished daily. The en-suite was well equipped with everything you could possibly need. The hotel boasted two T.V.lounges, one with bar for pre-dinner drinks and the other suitable for families, with video library! The nearby beaches at Shanklin were clean and easily accessible. For beer lovers the Chine Inn and Fishermans Cottage were well worth a visit, only a few minutes walk away. Most importantly,Christine and Keith serve superb food, plentiful and beautifully presented. They made us welcome and another visit will certainly see us staying at Swiss Cottage again!

We nearly are but we just have to catch that pesky Hambledon Hotel to the Top spot but that may prove and uphill task as with one unfounded review by someone who didn't even stay here, we need approx 20 more excellent reviews to counter act one bad one! Not really fair is it?
However the Hambledon haven't had a Mr Grumpy stay with them yet this year so who knows!

Both our establishments are very similar and offer great packages, value for money, with B & B, and Half Board and both accept families, hence we are both up there at the Top in Shanklin! Better mention the Eastmount Hall is very nice place to stay also otherwise I wont hear the last of it!!

Anyway, Another great review from two lovely people who will always be welcome back and yes The Chine Inn & Fisherman's Cottage are real jems and just a stones through away.
See you again soon we hope
Best Wishes
Keith & Chris

My wife & myself decided to visit the IOW for a short break. Whilst searching Tripadvisor we came acrross The Swiss Cottage.

A quick telephone call to Keith secured a provisional booking with the ferry arrangements included.

The following day the supporting paperwork arrived & we immediately posted off a cheque, a very effective & complete booking service.

On our arrival we were met by Christine who gave us a tour of our room. As mentioned within other reviews the room was very clean & well equipped. We received excellent service, the breakfast certainly set us up for the rest of the day.

The Swiss Cottage is in a great location between the beach & the town. There are plenty of off road parking spaces supported by unrestricted parking areas in the road.

My wife and I would like to thank you very much for your candid appraisal of our humble establishment.
Great reviews are always most welcome but when you get an Excellent Review from a Senior Contributor on Trip Advisor like yourselves, we must be doing something right!
Your review is fair, polite and to the point, so everyone can read it to help them in the future.
Now you have had a reminder of how great the Island is, hopefully you wont leave it too long next time to come back and stay the week with us to explore the plethora of places to visit in the not too distant future.
And finally to answer the question of our name The Swiss Cottage and the other one that copied us at Osborne House! no ours was named after a Swiss lady who owned and renamed the property in the 50's as she came from a small village by the Swiss Alps!
I think Osborne House Swiss Cottage is just a little older than ours as hers was built in 1854 but ours wasn't built until 1866, so both are approx 150-160 years old and still going strong!
Kindest Regards
Keith & Christine

Thank you for those kind words!
Yes we do aim to please all our guests and whilst you stayed with us in July we were catering for B & B guests as well as Half Board (usually June/July & Sept/Oct as we need a rest in August for our sanity) and find that after a filling meal and then later on a little drink or two from our modest little bar, we feel we get to know all our guests and the longer they stay the better friends we become.
Take care and hope you find all your other relatives on your family tree
Such Fun!

We returned to Swiss Cottage again this year. Yet again our stay was perfect. Very clean and comfortable bedrooms. Tea & coffee making facilities in bedrooms, even a mini fridge to keep drinks cold. Food was excellent with a varied menu which catered for all our needs. A very comfortable lounge where we could enjoy an evening drink and chat with other guests. Christine and Keith made us feel very welcome. We will be back next year.

Room Tip: 2 ground floor rooms, one of which is a lovely family room.

What an amazing B&B!!!!! Christine and Keith were perfect hosts and the hotel was faultless. Our room we stayed in was absolutely fantastic and had added extras that we had never seen before. At the Swiss Cottage Hotel it really boasts a family atmosphere, it was like going to see family, they made us feel really welcome. The menu that was provided did not disappoint, there was a fantastic choice of food which tasted even better. I would strongly recommend The Swiss Cottage for a family holiday as it says on the tin SIMPLY THE BEST. See you next year.

Simply the Best! I'm sure there is a song in the making! Ha Ha!
Thanks to all the G family. We are glad your family had a wonderful time in our family suite and you enjoyed Christine's fabulous cooking not only at breakfast but our well thought out menu for our evening meals. You certainly put a few pounds on when you stay with us!
We are very much looking forward to your return visit to the Island and your stay with us.
Take care and all the very best

We stayed at Swiss Cottage in July 2012. This was our first time in the Isle of Wight and we would definitely return and most definitely stay at Swiss Cottage again. The accommodation was excellent, spacious and comfortable. We stayed in a Family Room with our daughter who is aged 7. Our accommodation had two bedrooms, one for us and one for our daughter. That was great because it meant that we could put our daughter to bed but then we could feel able to watch television/read in our own room without disturbing her. It also had a lovely Family lounge on our floor which was set up with a television and many Disney DVD's, which were much appreciated. The food was lovely and there is a comfortable bar area available. Christine and Keith are very welcoming and helpful in advice on where to go and what to see. We would recommend this B&B highly, it is of an excellent standard and very good value for money.

Hi All
Thanks for coming to stay on the Isle Of Wight and picking us over all the other establishments.
I am pleased you loved our Family Suite which is two double/twin rooms as you have mentioned and not just a bed squeezed into the same room to make a family room, as alot of our competitors do?
This gives parents security for the children and also that bit of privacy for themselves!
The family lounge also does come in handy with all our daughters DVD/Videos from when she was a little younger.
However I must stress to all our guests that we only accept well behaved children and although Eleanor is only 7 but she acts alot older as was very well mannered.
A note to all, as we no longer take any children under that age and no babies, since doing the whole place up for everyone's comfort. (more new photos to follow shortly)
We are glad you had a hearty breakfast every day, however we are slowly doing away we evening meals as there are so many excellent Restaurants just around the corner having great deals for Adults, children's free meals and two for the price of one for Seniors, we can highly recommend quite a few for you.
Anyway thanks again for the honest review and look forward to seeing you again in the future.
Kind Regards
Keith & Chris

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Swiss Cottage is the Pride of Shanklin and has been consistently voted in the Top Two with 97% or 5/5 Satisfication for being one of the best in the Hotel category for Shanklin & the whole of the Isle of Wight. We have now won two Trip Advisor Travelers Choice Awards in 2011/12 & 2013/14 aswell as several Certificates of Excellence every year since 2011 and in 2014 just been announced we have been awarded a much sought after Green Leaders Gold Level Award for being Environmently Friendly re our Towel, Linen, Lighting & Recycling procedures, so we would like to Thank all those who have abided by our simple guidelines to help us achieve this Award. In October 2014 we were voted the Best B&B/Guest Accommodation on the Island and were also placed Highly Commended in the prestigious Tourisms The Beautiful South Awards. So why not check us out and read what everyone is saying about us! We are continually updating and keep the place clean and modern by putting in new comfy seating on the decking area, touching up the rooms and improving the place even more for your comfort. Although it only has 8 en suite bedrooms, our guest accommodation has that personal touch that many of the larger Hotels doesn't provide and is run by Keith & Christine the Owners. Whether it is B & B or Half Board we have tried to cater for everyone's needs whether single, double, friends or families, (sorry NO Children under 10 years of age or babies/infants), a safe environment for females and groups, in our comfortable modern bedrooms and bathrooms that we have converted in this old 1866 family home. (Unfortunately we do charge a Single Supplement in our School Summer Holidays and also slightly higher rates over our popular Bank Holidays & Festival Weekends. We have tried to think of everything for you, from Flat screen TVs, DVD, CD Players, Sky, Free WI-FI, fans, mini fridges and much more to make your stay a pleasurable one! We also arrange discounted Car Ferry crossing for you with Red Funnel or Wightlink. Unfortunately due to our continueing popularity, we no longer take one/two nighters as minimum stay is 3 nights as we now specialize in short breaks of 3/4 nights and a weeks holiday to ensure you see as much as the Island as you can. All of the above has transformed this property into a 4 Star plus with a coveted Silver Award for Service, Cleanliness and Hospitality and also a much soight after Breakfast Award. We know and are realistic that after reading all our wonderful reviews that there is always some people out there who will come to try shoot us down, nick pick everything and will try our patience, leave rooms in a state, go against our guidelines and generally be unruly, so if you are one of them we ask that you go elsewhere as we only happy to accept friendly respectful guests here, who want to enjoy themselves with us. We may meet as strangers but all our guests leave as friends. A Home from Home but don't forget to bring your slippers! See you soon? Keith & Christine ... more   less
