“Worth the walk down and climb back up.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2012

Out of season when we went so had a lovely beach to ourselves
on a sunny windy morning. Lots of steps down so not for children and elderly. But there are other ways to get there.

“Great walk”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2012

Very steep but worth the steps down and the climb back up.
Loved the fact there was no one on the beach, but it was November. It must be very busy in the summer. Great pebbly beach.

“Go back in time down the Chine !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2012

well our hotel was situated at the top of the Chine and even allowing for Coastal Erosion it probably still is ~Luccombe Manor Hotel ~rather nice. So it seemed logical to walk down the Chine and have dinner at the charming pub at the bottom.
I have to admit that we were slightly amazed by the entry fee,"thank heavens we left the children locked in the cupboard under the stairs"I said to my dear wife (I left the cheap one locked up with the kids).Seriously though once you have got over the slighly expensive entrance fee you enter a curiously innocent attraction which is the distilled essence of this Island's charm as you are transported back to the late 1950's when such places as this flourished in abundance ..Pixie Dells , Model villages etc etc.Its all sort of majestically home made and charming. This is not Disneyland or Alton Towers thank heavens this is an English Seaside attraction that Mrs Dale would have written about in her Diary and of which Enid Blyton would approve. It is rather lovely and was surpringly popular in the 1790's with visiting Artists like my own hero Rowlandson as the rather good little Museum testifies . It was lovely too seeing the late afternoon sun cast its fading light in shafts through the lush green foliage .It is perhaps worth the money we thought happily contemplating our crispy and fresh fish and chips .Lets face it ,if the place closed down or was allowed to slip sadly into disrepair something rather lovely would be gone forever .Keep it the way it is ! was our conclusion and at this point we would have probably handed over half a crown to do so..or even five bob !
Another surprise lay in wait though as when we got to the bottom we found we couldnt get back in without a return ticket ~so check on that when you visit as I wouldn't advise climbing the cliff back up as we did !! the laundry bill was horrific and the mud we trailed into the reception of the Hotel raised eyebrows.I just told them we had looked in at the Festival and I THINK WE GOT AWAY WITH IT !

“Nice walk”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2012

It was a nice walk through the gorge but it was raining hard, so we didn't stay too long. It had a nice section on the history during the war. This would not be suitable for those who have difficulty walking on uneven ground or slopes.
