We travelled to this hotel with Daish's who own the hotel itself. It really is a very nice looking hotel (orininally a coaching in) ideally situated in the pretty Shanklin old town which is full of "Lilliput Lane" type cottages, pubs and quaint little shops. On arrival at the hotel we were very impressed with the speed and efficiency of the check in - probably one of the fastest we have ever known. Downstairs the hotel has been fairly recently decorated and looks really nice. The bedrooms were spotlessly clean but we felt that they could benefit from a little TLC. The furniture was a little worse for wear and the bathroom could have done with an update but the bed was extremely comfortable. The food was very good. Excellent choices for both breakfast and evening meals. We had a lovely waitress called Jo who made mealtimes even more enjoyable with her friendy smile and super efficient service.
There is entertainment provided every evening but to be honest we tended to go out around Old Shanklin as there are some wonderful character filled pubs all a short walk from the hotel. Try the Henry VIII (Henry's Bar) A beautiful old pub with a shedload of character and a great fruit wine list!!
The beach is also just a short walk away and a nice walk along the coast will take you to Sandown.
This hotel is well worth a visit. It's not 5 star but then you're not paying 5 star prices. What it is is a great base to explore a lovely part of the world and great value for money.
