“very disappointing break”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2012

This has to be the worst hotel that my husband & I have ever stayed in, It may be dated but that is not a excuse for it to be dirty !! The bedroom, bathroom, dining area can only be described as filthy. The garden area is a no go zone because they are obviously not maintained, very overgrown & full of weeds. To put it bluntly the hotel could do with a complete overhaul or knocking down & rebuilding. We will definitely never come back to this hotel & would never recommend it to anyone.

Arrived with 2 children aged 2 and 9 on 11/8/12. The family room was dirty on arrival and we had to ask for the carpet to be hoovered. The shower had scum and mildew around the bath an screen. The female owner was rude and dismissive stating the room 'had been cleaned'. However she sent the husband up to clean it. The following day we had to retrieve our daughters toy from under the bed, to our horror it contained filth from previous guests including tablets and hairs. Again we complained to the owner who had the room cleaned. There are endless problems with this Hotel. The pool is ripped in several places the owner told us it had occurred the week before as was the window pane in the front door however when you read past reviews this damage goes back to even last September 2011. The owner is a liar. There was glass in the outside play area, sweet wrappers and drinks bottles left about. The ponds are not covered and contain only sludge. It advertises a relaxing area, the garden is overgrown and weeds are everywhere. It is rotten wherever you look. The dining room carpet is down to the floor boards and food stains on the seats which all have seen better days. We stuck to cereal and toast as the breakfast was the worst ever. Anyone who has enjoyed their stay here shouldnt be allowed out without a carer! Do not waste your hard earned money staying here - the owners just need your cash to keep their business going. We've reported them to trading standards and the Environmental Health. This place needs closing down. The photographs advertsing this place are years old - it is rundown, shabby, dirty and does not deserve any recommendations.

The Orchardcroft hotel was kind enough to accept our booking that was made in the middle of the night. The service was excellent, they met us up when we arrived, served us coffee and buscuits and took well care of us. I truly recommend this hotel!

If you are looking for friendly staff, clean hotel and a short distance from town go to the Orchardcroft.
I just returned from a fantastic weekend away with a group of friends and stayed here.
Chris, Jeanette, Adam and the waiter and waitresses made sure our stay was confortable and enjoyable.
Chris even extended the breakfast times as we has a pretty heavy night.
The pool and Jacuzzi were fantastic in dealing with the sore head also.

The orchardcroft is a lovely seaside hotel, with the added extra of fantastic customer service

I have just return from a weekend away and we stayed at orchard croft hotel. Chris the owner went out of his way to accomodate us even extending breakfast on our last day as a few were a little worse for wear. i recommend this hotel for people who wished to be treated as guests and not another pay check as other hotel may. .....i would like to end by thanking Chris for a great weekend. .....

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Orchardcroft. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and, in particular, the two girl waitresses in the restaurant were very polite and professional. The family room we booked was a good size, with a fridge, bath, TV with Freeview and tea-making facilities.

The breakfast was very nice, Full English and Smoked Haddock in particular and Cereals, Juices, speciality teas and yoghurts also available (although a little dissapointed that the yoghurts were a day out-of-date on our last morning there.

Dinner menu was good, a good variety of options but the veg was pretty tasteless (Frozen / Tinned I think) and the lettuce in the salads was a little past it's best. The kitchen were very accommodating though and would cook to order if you wanted, say, rice instead of chips, or sauces excluded etc. Range of puddings also very good. Dinner rolls on our second day were stale but had been fine on the other days.

In the morning, there was the option for the kids to join Chris in feeding the chickens which the kids enjoyed.

The biggest critisicm I have is that the place is very tired and desperately requires a refurb. The Hotel proudly states it has a Jacuzzi, Indoor Swimming Pool and Games Room but all these facilities are in need of updating. The Pool Table and Darts board look like they haven't been replaced for at least 10-15yrs and the table football really needs totally replacing as it's in a poor state. The 'date' of the Games Room (and the decor and condition in general across the hotel) is betrayed by the heavily pitted Parquet flooring and the hand written sign on the door which says "No Stilettos" !! Presumably put there to protect the 'new' flooring?....

There is a kids play area for younger children in the Games Room, with some plastic playhouses and bits. Our young kids enjoyed playing in there.

Reading previous reviews, I can verify the comments on cleanliness. The main areas in the room were clean, but any deeper inspection revealed heavy dust and dirt. The Fridge still had a packet of Sausage Rolls in it from, presumably, the previous visitors (which were out of date). The bathroom was tired and dated, but functional.

I also noticed, as per previous comments, dead flies and old food behind the blinds in the Eating area. Alarming really as some people were reporting this almost a year ago!

But, as I said, generally a pleasant stay but those who expect a very high standard will be dissapointed. I have to say that, although the place looks like a 1980's time capsule it does lend the Hotel a certain charm. Perhaps the owners prefer it that way?

My partener and I stayed here just for the night with our dogs on 28th of April 2012. The owner was very helpful and booked the ferry crossing and breakfast and evening meal all over the phone, and the price was very very good. I was very please that he was ok about the dogs because they are newfoundlands and not many places take large breeds. Upon arrival the place looked very dated and in need of some modernisation. However the staff were very frinedly and even gave us a family room due to the dogs. (we were the only people staying) the place is clean and tidy and welcoming so ideal if that is what your looking for. If you are looking for 5* dining and accomadation this is not for you. This is by no means high end. its basic its clean and its cheap. The only real downfall for this place is the face that you feel you are in an old people home the decor is old lady like?? flowery and frilly and very faulty towers....the food is ok breakfast was nice did the job. however the evening meal was pretty dissapointing. cheap food, frozen veg, frozen fish frozen chips...not really resturant or even cafe quality. shame living so close to the sea that the fish was not fresh. overall a pleasant night comfy clean bed, nice people.
