“Clean, comfortable, convenient, caring.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2011

We stayed 3 nights on B & B terms . Location is on a hill up from the small town of Holywood, so one needs a car. The house is adjacent to the countryside so no traffic noises, only those of the family & 3 children. We slept in comfort, good beds & bedding, really good size room with adjoining large bathroom with seperate shower. I would have liked an electric razor point in the bathroom, as no plug to power it up. The lovely fried breakfast is served in the room at a table, latest is 8.30 am .
There is tea making, plus a small fridge .This B & B offers self catering or B & B terms. The location is excellent as about 15 mins away by fast road from airport or docks. The town of Holywood has a super restuarant called Enigma, and a cracking Pub called The Dirty Duck. Both I can recommend . An other wonderful hotel/pub/restuarant , at Crawfordsburn is not to be missed, 15 mins drive . A must see is the Ulster Folk & transport Museum close by. Ed & Fiona will helfully recommend things to do or see. We paid £65 per night for B & B for 2 people. I thought it was well worth the money. My only suggesting to improve things would be a call bell in the hall to contact Ed or Fiona, rather than knocking on their private door.

We stayed at Braeside as we were attending a wedding in a nearby hotel. The owner was very welcoming and friendly. The room was spacious with a gorgeous view over the lough. The room had an en suite with an excellent power shower. The room was also equipped with a tv, small fridge and tea & coffee making facilities. The two best parts of our stay were firstly the bed - I have to say that it is the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in! Had a top class night's sleep. Secondly, breakfast is brought up to you in the morning between 7.30 and 10am - you choose the time. Then it is served to you at a table there - ours was beside the window so we enjoyed a delicious cooked breakfast looking out onto the view of the Lough. I have no complaints whatsoever about this Country House and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Well worth the money and also convenient to Belfast City Centre. We would definitely stay there again - a complete hidden gem!

If you are looking for a place to stay in Northern Ireland look no further than the Braeside Country House. Nestled in the hills of Holywood, the house is not a house, but a home away from home. The view, the gardens and everything was simply lovely. When we arrived, we were greeted by our hosts Ed and Fiona, and you couldn't ask for better hospitality or kindness. We stayed in the Bed and Breakfast side with our family of 5 and loved it. Everything was done to make our stay absolutely perfect. The rooms were clean, with nice decor, spacious and very modern. We were provided with a lovely breakfast each morning. In fact, our children were trying to see who could wake up first to get to the food. Fiona was an absolutely wonderful hostess offering to help us in anyway she could, and made us feel so welcome we didn't want to leave. Although we didn't require the space in the self catering unit it was offered to us. We were able to use the laundry facilities and amenities it provided if we so desired. As this was our families first trip to Ireland we were absolutely blown away by the kindness we were shown. Our entire family would recommend staying with at the Braeside if you are travelling in that area. If we ever have the opportunity to go back to Ireland we will be staying with Ed and Fiona -- you won't find better.

Braeside Country House has been taken over since December 2007 by a lovely couple who have since brought it up to the standards expected for a stay away from home. It's now a shadow of its former self. It's EXTREMELY clean and very homely. It is set in well kept gardens which are beautiful for a spring/summer stay and has cosy sofas and a lovely fire to snuggle up beside on a winter break. You are very handy by foot car or taxi to all the local bars and restaurants. Overall I would highly recommend a stay at Braeside Country House.
