“Carvers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

We come here every year for our traditional Sunday carvery and every year it is just awesome!

The staff are lovely and the food is fresh and cooked to perfection!

“poor service and bad food”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

Went here for a family meal and regretted it, looked promising from the outside but the service is terrible, food is below standard and I would guess store bought and microwaved. OK if you don't mind waiting three quarters of an hour for the poorest meal we have had in years. Honestly save your money and try the carvery next door, sorry guys but the experience was crap. “Ok for what we got”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

Ordered drinks and were given a different cider than the one we asked for. Ordered a ploughmans and that came without the advertised apple. Ordered a steak, mushroom and onion baguette which came without onion. All in all food was tasty but chef needs to read the menu !

“Not Great”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

Headed for the Spinning Wheel to see a band called Hot Candy – The food was just about ok, but not gastro pub - the menu prices should have told us that in advance. I would describe it as standard pub grub from 20 years ago – Big portions but poor quality ingredients, and if that’s your thing, good for you.
The band, well what a disaster. Boy, they were talented musicians, but they let a sound guy mike them up, unusual for a small venue, and his mix absolutely ruined the whole performance. For example, you could see the bass player giving his a bass a good slapping to the funk, but you couldn’t hear any of it – he had his hand up and down the fret board for no audible benefit to the audience. Bloody awful mix so left half way through –
Returned another night to see a three piece play Funk, Rock and Blues. For obvious reasons we didn’t eat there. To our relief the band were not miked up, and they could play - Funk, Rock and Blues, but unfortunately at times each played either one or the other, all at the same time. The drummer could rock his way through everything, rim shotting his snare as he went, and this really did spoil one particular song, where the bassist let rip with a fantastic piece of funk bass playing that would put Mark King to shame.
Give the place ago – it may be ok for you.

“Poor”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

Attracted to this pub because we had heard great things about the bands and atmosphere. On our arrival late afternoon, before the bands were due to commence, we elected to sit inside and have a meal, but were told that the carvery had closed. The bar staff were off hand and more interested in talking amongst themselves or to people they knew. They appeared disinterested in dealing with us and were happier taking drink orders than dealing with food requirements. In fact, they recommended a place down the street. So we finished our drinks and hurriedly left. We ended up eating elsewhere and attended another pub the next time we were in Paignton. I guess they don't need the revenue.
