My mum 2 children and toddler stayed here for 2 nights and couldn't have been made more comfortable if tried! An absolute delight and very friendly owners! Also was shocked with the amount of things available! It was almost like a home from home! Not to mention excellent value for money! Will be back! ! Xx

My stay at The Bronte Hotel, at the end of July, was less than wonderful. The first thing that happened when I let myself into my room, (the owner was absent visiting the cash and carry), was that the surround of the light switch fell off onto the floor; not a good start. The second thing was the realization that the room had a very strong perfumed smell, not unlike lavatory cleaner. I suspect that it may have been “Shake and Vac” or something similar. In any event it was an ever present irritating smell.

The room had clearly once been a quite pleasant double room with a large window. However, an en-suite bathroom had been “shoe horned” into one corner of the room, obscuring a large part of the window and resulting in a wall, (bizarrely decorated in some black material), halfway across the room just beyond the end of the double bed. The bathroom was poorly designed with its inward opening door colliding with the outward opening door of the shower. In the shower there was nowhere, (except in the shower tray itself), to put down anything; shower gel, shampoo, soap or anything else. Against electrical regulations, the bathroom had an ordinary light switch on the wall, just outside the shower cubicle; very handy for wet hands. However, all of these irritations were overshadowed by the positioning of the lavatory pan. I happened to have a measuring tape in the car and can report that the front edge of the pan was exactly 28 cms, (11 inches) from the wall in front of it. This meant that short of having my thighs shortened or punching a hole in the wall to accommodate my knees, I was unable to use the lavatory unless I rode it, (as it were), “side saddle”. Unbelievably, the problem could easily have been solved by turning the pan through 900, the plumbing easily adaptable and plenty of room available for ones legs.

The washbasin, (in the room), was plastic and stained; neither had it been very well cleaned. There were no drinking glasses in the room, only a coffee mug and a very flimsy disposable plastic cup. The wardrobe contained several hangers but only one of them had a bar for hanging up trousers. The room was very hot and stuffy but had no fan, (although one was produced when I enquired). Payment for my three night stay was requested as soon as the owner returned from the cash and carry.

A perfectly acceptable cooked breakfast was served but was spoilt by awful coffee, thin and hard toast (white) and cheap marmalade in little plastic containers that tasted of little except sweetness.

At £45.00 per night I did not consider this good value and despite having paid for three nights, I left after only two.

At least one person had commented in the Guest Book that it was “Home from Home”. Some people must live in very odd homes.

In answer to this guest's review I would like to clarify a number of points. Our check in time is from 3pm, knowing that I had to visit the cash & carry I had made the key available in case the guest arrived early which he did. The room in question is not usually a guest letting room but is a room reserved for friends & family, but the gentleman in question requested a ground floor room so we made every effort to accommodate his needs. The smell he refers to was a cleaning product used to clean the en suite shower room.
I feel very aggrieved that the gentleman didn't approach me during his stay with us to bring to our attention that he was not happy with his accommodation as we could have moved him to a more suitable room for him, instead he decided to leave saying he had to leave early due to family matters then post his review on this webpage.
Our aim at The Bronte Hotel is to make everyone feel welcome & at home & we try to encourage guests to let us know if they are unhappy with anything while they are staying with us & we will do our utmost to rectify any problems straight away.

The en suite is seriously small in Room 3, you have to back in to sit on the loo because turning is impossible and you have to leave the sliding door open to use the sink so no privacy. I'm not a small person but it was the same for my 10 year old son! This is a very cheap B&B so to be fair you get what you pay for.

We were sorry to hear that this guest was not happy with the en suite facility in one of our rooms. The room in question will be having the sink facility relocated at the end of the 2013 season. We do hope they will visit us again after this time.

We booked the Bronte for the 1st time in august 2009 for our honeymoon. Paul & Gail where really nice and friendly and when they found out we was on our honeymoon they brought us a bottle of champagne. Told us best places to eat locally that was cheap enough and friendly. We went back again this yr to celebrate our 2nd anniversary again they was very friendly and helpful in fact Paul complained that we had complained about anything. We hopefully will be going again nxt yr.

We have been coming here twice a year for the last 4 years and are still enjoying the experience. Paul, Gail and family are always very welcoming. Paul always manages to sort out the necessary acommodation for all the family and nothing is too much trouble. The Bronte Hotel has a good range of breakfasts (even the poached eggs are good Paul!!) The rooms are always well presented and comfortable. The Lounge area is ideal for relaxing in the evening, with a couple of computers available for use by guests along with WIFI should you bring your own laptop. The hotel being a short distance from the seafront it is ideal for a nice evening stroll.

Looking forward to seeing you both in the new year around April and August as usual.
To those looking for a good hotel in the Paignton area, you can't go wrong with The Bronte.
