“Seriously, Alex Polizzi could not find fault.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

We only stayed for one night in Sept '13 and Jim made us feel like welcome friends in his own home. This town house is so easy to find and so close to the city centre, perfectly placed for a stress free visit to enjoy Durham. The views from the very comfortable outdoor sitting areas at the back of the property, (perfect for enjoying breakfast, weather permitting) were stunning, with the Cathedral, majestic at centre stage. Like the rest of the house, our room was very tastefully decorated, beautifully furnished and immaculately cleaned. The bathroom was warm and welcoming with everything the visitor could need. At breakfast, a wide choice of fresh fruit, fruit juice and a variety of cereal was availabe for self service and the choice of cooked breakfast seemed unlimited with the likes of eggs anyway you like, smoked salmon, kippers and full English or any combination you fancy. All served hot, fresh and with a generous portion of friendlyness from our host, Jim. Many thanks to Jim and his wife also to Petra for a very comfortable stay. "A home from home"

Very good welcome and very comfortable and clean rooms. En suite bathroom was newly fitted out and all in very good condition. I especially liked the heated towel rack.
The Breakfast choice was excellent though i went for the Kippers right away which turned out to be delicious. I did not have a view over the Cathedral but was on the street side which was very quiet. As it was raining and cloudy the cathedral was shrouded in mist so no great loss. Easy walking distance but up hill and down dale, to the town centre.
I would certainly go back to this one.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the Cathedral

We stayed her for three nights whilst visiting Durham for the Lindisfarne Gospels, and were
very impressed indeed. The room and shower room were superb, and the breakfasts were
magnificent.
We were made to feel most welcome and hope to pay a return visit.

Room Tip: Try and get a room at the back, excellent views

We have stayed at Cathedral View many times over the past 8 years since our daughter started studying at Durham University. We always stay here when we can if there is space because of the genuine welcome from Karen and Jim who never rest on their laurels and are always looking for ways to improve - each time we stay there are small changes and improvements. Best breakfasts we've ever had with most of it locally sourced. Very comfortable rooms with all amenities including WiFi, guests lounge and patio with magnificent views of the cathedral - all within a short walk of the town centre.

Dear Claire and Mike.
Where did all the years go?! From your first visit bringing your daughter as a Fresher in 2005, we have enjoyed your stays with us to visit Olwen mainly for happy reasons including graduations, 21st birthday celebrations and to move her into the house you purchased followed by visits to undertake DIY projects etc..
We trust that her formidable qualifications will lead to her obtaining a rewarding career soon.
Many thanks for your generous review.
Best wishes
Karen and Jim

My wife, sister, her husband and I stayed here for two nights - and wish it was for more. It is like staying in a five star hotel. The breakfast was to die for. Great views of the Durham Cathedral out of the back. The owner, Jim, would bend over backwards to help - I twisted my ankle and had difficulty walking, so he lent me a walking stick for our visit to the Beamish museum - our reason for the visit. The rooms were very clean, and the shower excellent. Some good places to eat locally, and good recommends by Jim.

If you are staying then pay the extra for the rooms at the back because you get the most spectacular view of Durham and the cathedral. The room itself was excellent with a comfortable bed and excellently appointed shower room. Breakfasts are not only superbly cooked but you also get a very varied selection. And finally Jim & Karen are excellent hosts.

Room Tip: Top at the back
