“One of the Best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2014

We stayed two nights in June 2014 in Room 4. A very spacious, comfortable room, very clean and well-appointed. Good breakfast and friendly service. Ideal location within easy walking distance of the city centre.

A little more direction in advance on exactly where the house is located would be helpful for those arriving by car.

Very enjoyable stay and would highly recommend.

The location of the guest house is perfect, right in the city centre, but easy to reach by car as you come into the city. The owners will sort out a parking permit for you. We arrived early and were shown to our rooms immediately. The owner was very welcoming and relaxed, couldn't have made us more welcome. The rooms are stunning, beautifully decorated, spacious, light and luxurious. Beds extremely comfortable. Everywhere is utterly spotless. The sash windows can be opened easily to enjoy the views, but when closed are very soundproof. There was a cycle race going on when we were there, very noisy, and once we closed the window hardly anything could be heard. The bathrooms are stunning, the showers - ours were both double sized, the shower enclosures being the size of a bathtub - are exceptional, really strong water jets and loads of hot water. Lovely little touches in the bathroom - cotton buds and cotton wood pads, as well as the usual hand wash etc. The hotel is perfectly situated to enjoy the city - 2 mins down the street to the lovely shopping area and the riverside and then another 5 mins (at a leisurely pace) up to the Cathedral and the Castle. Beautifully planted garden which guests are encouraged to enjoy. Super breakfast the following morning, faultless. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Durham and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this guest house.

How to best describe the room.........opulent, spacious, high quality, comfy bed. Such a warm welcome from the owners. First class accommodation and attention to detail throughout and we will not hesitate to stay here again when we next visit Durham.

Room Tip: For light sleepers the Rooms at the front could be subject to the noise from late night revellers bu...

Location, location, location! This place has it in spades. A brief walk to all the main sights and others are not far away in this lovely city. Recently refurbished. Occupied a large room which was quiet even though it was on a main road. Comfy bed. Spotless bathroom, Ample breakfast. Very pleasant staff and nice, welcoming proprietor. Would not hesitate to come here again. A real find.

This B&B is easily on par with many five star hotels, but obviously for a much more reasonable price. Room # 6 was huge - more than enough for one, and very comfortable for two. It was spotless, had a large flatscreen TV, a modern bathroom that was similarly spotless with heated towel racks, and of course free WiFi.

The owners were very friendly and the full english breakfast each morning of my two night stay was wonderful. It's also within walking distance of the central square and Cathedral area, as well as the train station (although the walks are a bit strenuous). This B&B could easily be recommended as a getaway destination in itself just to relax and unwind, but anyone traveling to Durham should have Castle View Guest House at the top of their list.

Castle View is an excellent choice for a B&B in Durham. We had Room #4--clean, spacious, comfortable, and a wonderful bathroom/shower. Tea/hairdryer/robe all provided. (Those who need pitch-black rooms to sleep in, bring an eye patch.) Everyone was very friendly, and both continental and fresh-cooked English breakfast are available. The location is excellent for walking into Durham and to nearby restaurants.

Room Tip: Room 4 was wonderful. Tons of room, huge bathroom. Despite curtains, it's bright in the room f...

Have just returned fron a one night stay at the Castle View Guest House. Our room, No 2, was a beautiful room. Spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The tea, coffee etc is plentiful and toiletries are provided in the very clean and smart bathroom. The guest house is a few minutes walk from the castle and cathedral. We loved staying there and would definitely book again.

This can mean that the street is sometimes lively and noisy at night usually at weekends due to the fact that we are a prestigious university city with many boisterous young people out and about. We do however have double glazing and the highest quality beds to help you have a goodnight sleep before a full English breakfast cooked fresh to order with cereals , juices , and freshly cut fruit salad. ... more   less
