“My Niece Wedding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

We stayed at the Hallgarth Manor Country Hotel on the 27/07/13 for the wedding of my niece. We had a lovely time from start to finish.
We arrived at the hotel to be greeted by the master of ceremony, and made our way for pictures to be taken in the beautiful gardens.
The meal was excellent food cooked to perfection, staff all very friendly and helpful.
Bedroom was nice and clean, and bed very comfortable, good night sleep had by all. Breakfast very nice too, I cannot praise the hotel and its staff enough as I said earlier, we had a lovely time from start to finish.
Will definitely be returning to stay at this hotel again,

I stayed here with my mum on 30 June and 1 July and we really enjoyed our stay. The hotel was in a good location and had lovely grounds. The twin room was adequate for our needs and was clean. The staff were so friendly and polite and helpful. We had a bar meal on our first night and it was very tasty and the breakfast was freshly cooked to order each morning. It felt much friendlier than staying in a chain hotel and it is nice to see an independent hotel still being run so well. It was a very good price as well compared to other hotels in Durham. My only negative comments would be that it is not very well signposted from the A690 so we did get a bit lost! And the windows in the room were difficult to keep open but we were told that they were fixing that problem. So all in all if you want a nice friendly hotel just outside Durham this would be a good choice!

Myself and my partner recently stopped in the hotel. The bathroom was dirty and old fashioned, the mattress was hard and the bedding dirty with bodily fluids.

All the staff were friendly and breakfast was above average.

About the same as a travel lodge, if somewhat over priced. Like all the other comments on trip advisor, management shoud take the comments seriously rather than just being defensive. That way the hotel might get returning visits.

The best thing about the hotel was the friendly staff, which no doubt could be found at other establishments. Therefore the hotel could up its game and be a really success and asset to Durham.

We booked to stay at the hotel as we were visiting friends locally. The hotel is a nice setting and good location to Durham. However the rooms need a major overhaul. They are tired, especially the bathroom which was pretty awful. The bedding was stained and it generally seemed a bit grubby.

The staff were great and the breakfast was really nice. We booked a twin room as the double was over £100 more which seemed silly, but we had a double bed anyway which was nice.

Overall, I would stay here again if the price was right but would not pay full price. If you don't intend to spend much time in your room and your not too fussy it's worth a stay.

We stayed here for one night (mid-week) at an excellent rate which included breakfast. On the whole we had a very good experience and great value. The hotel is a beautiful building and some of the rooms are magnificent. Our breakfast was excellent and the service was superb. Our only problem was that we were in a room on the second floor (which is probably where the budget rooms are as the price was very good - the rooms on the first floor had more robust doors and looked like more substantial rooms). Unfortunately for us, it did feel like the guest in the room next door was in our room with us. We heard absolutely everything, to the point that the floorboards in our room even creaked when he walked around in his room and when he got up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom it honestly felt like he was using our bathroom!! The hotel didn't appear to be full (in fact it was very quiet) and I wonder if the management should perhaps consider spreading their guests out a bit, at such times, so that they are not on top of each other to make the experience more pleasant.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the first floor as they seem to be more substantial and probably have thicker w...

A premium experience at a budget price. Our room was comfortable and clean; the staff could not have been more friendly, efficient or welcoming. We ate in the bar and the food was excellent though very cheep. All together, highly recommended.

This was my first time staying in this lovely country house hotel set in very attractive grounds. I could see why this would make an excellent wedding location. Had a single room which was perfect for my needs as a single traveller and was comfortable and homely. It had everything I could need, including free Wi-Fi which was a bonus.
The highlight of my stay however was the breakfast which was plentiful and tasty! Next time will try the restaurant for an evening meal.
Highly recommend
