“Pleasant stay ”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

Booked a 2 night stay here to have a wander round durham. Set in the old 1844 train station so a lovely historic building. I was pleasantly suprised to find the room very large with the typical basics tea coffee sugar. The room was perfectly clean and comfortable. Quick check in and free parking outside.

10-15 minutes walk and your in the city. One negative which bares no reflection on travel lodge, the hotel is set next to a very busy ring road and round about. This can be heard in the room we stopped in but wasn't so noisy that it disrupted my sleep. Crossing the road outside is a bit perilous. However behind the hotel is an overpass which makes getting into town safer.

Very happy with my stay and would book here again.

The location is great. Just a 10-15 min straight walk to the centre of Durham.

The hotel seems to be in 3 blocks (the main block is attached to reception/adjacent to the Sambucca restaurant - with further annexes behind the main building).

We stayed in room 214 and this block was the furthest away from reception (but only about a minute walk) - entry into the block was by keycode. It was a very quiet block - and had around 20 parking spaces right outside, so no need to fight for space on the main car park.

The room was newly refurbished and was clean with no frills. Hairdryer and iron are available on request.

We had our tablet with us and plugged it into the HDMI cable in the TV but it wouldn't work. Lady behind reception advised that some services (like this one) had been blocked (bit disappointing).

No complaints for £90 for 2 nights.

Room Tip: Annexe rooms are tucked away in a quieter location than the main building.

Well the room was excellent, very well presented, clean and spacious. The bathroom was in an excellent state as well, lovely and clean with a great shower. I would definitely stay here again, the staff were excellent as well, I was checked in within minutes and I was given some information about the local area as well

Great position, meant we didnt need to use the car to go to the centre, 5 minutes walk. Also, easy access from the motorway. Lots of parking spaces. Clean rooms and plenty of space. The only 'problem' was a lack of soundproofing between ground and first floor. Every footstep could be heard.

Room Tip: Choose a first floor room to eliminate the noise from above.

The hotel is in a very good position close to Durham city centre and is an attractive building with an Italian restaurant attached. The decor has recently been updated and the room, although fairly basic, was pleasant. The only problem we encountered was a blocked shower drain, which meant one of us couldn't shower in the morning, but the staff apologised and offered to correct the problem asap. I can only assume they did this, as we only stayed for one night. I can recommend the hotel, provided you don't want a cooked breakfast - they only offer a breakfast box.

I booked in here because of the price and location and that £3 for 24h wifi was good value and I needed it for business purposes. Location good. Easy to find. Enough parking. Good reception. Restaurant next was good. Room clean and modern. Everything in good order. Could have done with double glazing, but nearby traffic noise was not so bad. Wifi did not work in our building. This was bad since I was relying on it for voip and email. Front desk staff tried to resolve but it is subcontracted. Slept well. £35, a bargain, but shame about the wifi, and perhaps they could toy with secondary glazing.

This is the second time we have stayed here the rooms are spotless and comfortable in a no frills fashion. Durham centre is a short walk so it's very central. We only got one teabag and not much milk so we went to reception for some more but it would be more helpful if they just left a decent amount.
All in all though it was quiet and comfortable for the one night and free car park was a bonus.
