“Pleasant lunch experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

Walking up the hill in the sleet on a miserable freezing March morning it was a delight to walk in here and to be warmly greeted and handed a menu.

Really nice choice to eat and drink. Our lunch was great and kicked off my fiance's 30th in style. Got the impression this was a family business, really nice vibe to the place.

“Great value for money and absolutely delicious!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

I've come to the deli quite a number of times now, and every time my meal has been absolutely delicious and such good value. There is a great selection of different coffees and teas, and with special drinks like their mulled apple juice or ice tea there's always something different to choose and experience. Lunch usually costs around £5 or £6, and are always a well-sized portion that fills you up. If you do have room to squeeze in dessert, the various cakes and tarts are absolutely divine, as is the chocolate platter. The deli is very popular, and can get quite busy. As it is only a small place, I would avoid going Saturday lunchtimes if you want a seat (they do do takeaway meals).

“Best place for lunch in Durham”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2012 via mobile

The best place for lunch in Durham! Here you can get amazing sandwiches with the freshest vegetables and fruit, yummy meat and some lovely cheese. I have visited on numerous occasions and it has never disappointed me. It is also very cheap, so there is no reason not to have your lunch here

“A bit disappointed...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2012

Went here on the basis of reviews on this site and given the glowing reports we were a bit disappointed. First impressions always matter and who can honestly say that going to the counter to order your food rather than having your order taken at the table is a good start.

Pleasant enough surroundings but a shortage of tables for two. Only afew people in and we got the last table as being British we don't really do table sharing do we!

Ordered the Greek Salad and Spanish meat platter. Greek salad was very poor...no problem with the ingredient quality just that it was not a Greek salad. Greek salads do not contain little gem lettuce! Lack of cucumber, sweet onion etc.

The Spanich meats were ok but not special and generally got the impression that most of the food we had was just assembled from the local Tesco.

Sorry to sound so negative but was prepared for something a bit special...and whilst ok enough, special it is not.

“Durham's latest eatery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2012

I had a much needed late breakfast here - a daddy bear size bowl of porridge, sourdough toast & marmalade & a soya latte. The deli opens at 10 a.m. but I can't understand LillyBage's poor experience. They do have a wide range of hot drinks. On my second visit I had Keemum tea whidh was unusual but nice & worth having again. I thought the prices were pretty reasonable. There are some nice comfy armchairs & settees & there's free wifi, a big bonus.
