“Great British pub”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2013

I have eaten at the New Inn on a number of occasions when on business in the area and can honestly say the food has been excellent every time. The landlord and landlady always go out of their way with regards to customer service, nothing is too much trouble. The food and atmosphere is exceptional and the fireplace makes it a real cosy affair. Highly recommended if you are in the area on business or on holidays. I will certainly be returning when next in the West country.

“Great food in a welcoming traditional pub”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013 via mobile

We visited the New Inn on two occasions during our recent visit to Devon. This is a very friendly local pub serving great home cooked food. The portions are generous, served with piping hot mixed veg and potatoes, and the honeycomb ice cream is highly recommended. Nothing was too much trouble for the landlords who even offered to provide meals not on the menu given a couple of days notice. We did not take up this offer as two visits was not enough to sample all we would have liked from the menu!

“Everything that is great about Britain”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2013 via mobile

Don't be fooled by the quaint look of the traditional British pub. What hides inside is not only a fantastic welcome but food and atmosphere that is only achieved when you really love what you are doing.
Admittedly we came to this pub with friends because of its rating on trip advisor. We didn't regret it.
Our intention was to enjoy a main meal, some wine and grab a taxi home for a simple night out. There are no menus, a simple chalk board with all starters and main course were rested against and empty table near us. While our drinks were collected by the very attentive staff we concluded that we wished they offered a tasting plate selection of all of the dishes. Each dish was described to us explaining some of the spices that are used and we chose: baked Camembert, duck spring rolls and mushroom and Stilton - all plates were clean when picked up by the staff. We followed with beef rendang, lamb, scampi and pork chop (locally reared).
The food was fantastic and by the time the options of desert came we were full.
It did not stop 3 of us having desert though and the choices of lemon cheesecake, chocolate lumpy bumpy and a rather large profiterole. They lived up to the high standards set by the first 2 courses.
The total bill for 4 including wine, spirits and beers was £120. I would not question recommending The New Inn to anyone.

“Honest pub food, enthusiastically prepared and served”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2013

The menu is extensive and the surroundings cosy in this rural pub, which was Number 1 on Trip Advisor when we visited. We were the first to arrive and were warmly greeted by the husband and wife team who run the place. The dishes were enthusiastically described to us, with assurances that each one could be altered to suit any taste. We ordered a baked camembert to start, which was the perfect size for two to share. Runny, garlicky, and perfectly accompanied by fresh-tasting rosemary bread, it was a delicious way to start the meal. The main courses were generous, but both the bacon-wrapped pheasant and Cajun-spiced chicken were tough. The accompanying wild mushroom sauce was delicious, and most impressive were the very fresh tasting vegetables that were served on the side, which tasted even better with the garlic mayonnaise intended for the chicken. The drinks selection was very good and we had some interesting beers and a bottle of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo red wine, which was very good value. Many of the desserts were homemade and we shared an excellent Bakewell tart with custard. The pub was hosting a skittles tournament the night we were there, so the room alternated being boisterously full and almost empty. Throughout it all, the proprietors remained attentive and friendly. Definitely worth a visit.
