I had Julie's fantastic pheasant. It was excellent. Pot roasted with a sauce to die for. The New Inn is well worth a visit. You won't be disappointed!

“birthday trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

Like others on this site i wanted to try this pub after reading the glowing reports, all i can say is wow.The food was so good, many 5 star restaurants could not match its quality. From the moment we walked in,we were treated to a friendly welcome and service to match. The landlady, who i believe is the chef, ran through the menu on the board for us,there was so much choice, and what was nice was, that she would alter the dish if you did not like any of the ingrediants, without spoiling the dish. All of us went for the 3 courses, and as advised on here, make sure you dont eat alot beforehand, the portions were generous. The in laws are planning to come back one lunch time to try some other dishes, and the wife and i will definatly make a return.

“Traditional Pub. Great Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

Went here last evening for the first time after recommendations. This is a traditional local pub, great atmosphere and a very warm welcome as soon as we walked in. It is not one of those locals where everyone looks at you and all conversation stops when you walk in. Everyone was very friendly.
There is an extensive menu, with 'special dishes' and 'pub food' type dishes, ie steaks and pies. Everything is home made.
We both had the pheasant, which was two breasts each, off the bone, wrapped in ham and served with a beautiful sauce of wild mushrooms, cream and brandy. It was super. We chose to have a freshly cooked selection of vegetables and new potatoes. They were perfectly cooked.
The baked camembert we shared as a starter was wonderful and ripe. A proper camembert, not some preformed wedge, which we have often been served in other places. So often there is no taste to this cheese because it is not allowed to ripen properly, this was excellent and made a good sharing plate.
We finished with the home-made honeycombe ice-cream - amazing.
The wine list has a decent selection and is reasonably priced.
Would recommend this place to anyone.
We plan to go back again for a light lunch - a camembert to share, followed by ice-cream and a glass (or 2) of wine.
Worth booking as not a large place and does get busy.

“Excellent food in a traditional local”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2013 via mobile

As soon as we arrived we had a lovely, friendly welcome. Julia went through the menu giving wonderful descriptions of the highlights. I went for pheasant wrapped in bacon which was really nicely cooked and there was plenty of it. My wife had the curry which Julia promised would be very spicy. We have heard this on other restaurants in the past and been disappointed with the lack of spice, but this curry lived up to expectations! There were also plenty of vegetables which were cooked perfectly. There is also a good selection of puddings including home made ice cream. There is a decent wine list with wine that is very reasonably priced. The only slight downside was that it took quite a while for the food to appear but given that the five of us all wanted very different meals and Julia was short of staff that day it was understandable, and was more than made up for by the quality of the food. The pub itself is a good old fashioned local and it was very entertaining listening to the regulars at the bar. In summary a wonderful meal at a very reasonable price
