My wife and I stayed last week for a couple of nights. The welcome was very nice, perhaps a little too patronising (as if we may never have stayed in a hotel before) but very friendly. The lobby and hall areas are very much in the b&B mid class, nothing really matches. Does not feel a special place. The room an oldie worldy four poster room, was pleasant enough but not worth £99. Bathroom functional but tiny. Dont book for a luxury stay away, which I guess is where it's try to place itself, probably falsely.
You'd be better off staying in a 2 star place, as the only facility you may miss is the bar - which is not inviting in the least anyway. location is not bad though, and taxi to bowness is only £2.70, windermere is a very short walk - probably closest for a drink anyway.
hope this helps to make up your mind
