Myself and my husband spent a weekend at Woodlands in May 2012, booked as part of a TravelZoo offer which included 2 nights bed and breakfast along with cream tea on arrival, a bottle of prosecco and an afternoon tea. I cannot fault the service of the staff, the quality and cleanliness of the rooms/lounge/dining room or the location - everything was perfect. Located about a mile downhill walk to Lake Windermere, we thought it was a good location for the centre of Windermere as well as Bowness and Lake Windermere and we did a lot of walking...through choice! Would not hesitate in recommending Woodlands and would definitely return :)

Spent 2 nights here. Paid extra for a courtyard room (£300 in total for 2 nights) and not worth the money. The courtyard room was £60 extra. On arrival, the ground floor room smelt damp (heavy rain that day) and the internal floor mat was soaking wet (this was sorted once the owner had been informed of this). Room was nicely decorated though and the bed was nice, but the pillows were rubbish. Nice touch with bathrobes. Bathroom very small. Shower virtually scolded us once, as the temperature could not be regulated. Toiletries were a good quality.
Fresh milk would be nice for tea/coffee, as would some bottled water in the room.
Breakfast was average but efficient, with the cooked breakfast arriving before my partner had eaten her cereal. Staff were friendly but too quick to keep asking us if we wanted more of anything.

Decided to stay at Woodlands after reading other reviews which seemed very favourable. Was not disappointed - staff so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Bit of a walk to Bowness - but was all downhill. Windermere slightly shorter walk. Breakfast was always freshly cooked to order and waiting time was very minimal. We stayed three nights and each morning breakfast never disappointed. Also choice of cereals and yoghurt and fresh fruit, so something for everyone. Staff always keen to help if you need advice for any trips. All in all a very friendly, clean and welcoming hotel - forget the big chains and try this cosy independent five star abode.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter than front. Try for upgrade, rooms larger and free wi-fi.

Stayed here for one night after being unable to find a place lower down in Bowness and searching through many websites.. The staff and owners were extremely pleasant and helpful and the rooms were nicely decorated. The breakfasts were extremely good. We had full english but the couple on the next table had pancakes with strawberries & other fruits, this looked so good I wish I could have had both.I will be going back as I tend to stay in Bowness one or twice a year and hopefully bring my children next time.

Excellent location for seeing the best of both Bowness and Windermere villages and beyond. Welcomed by Amy on arrival who was informative and very friendly, clearly passionate about both the hotel and surrounding area. The room was decorated and furnished to a high standard and was impeccably clean. The quality and choice of breakfast was superb setting us up for the day ahead. Throughout our stay we found all of the staff to be helpful, friendly and attentive. Would definitely stay again.

Stayed here recently for 2 nights on the travelzoo offer.
There had been a mix up when we arrived as had specified a room with the owner by telephone as it was my partner's birthday treat. We were unable to have this room on the first night as it had been double booked but were given the option to move on the second day which we were happy about as the first room was very small and the bathroom was claustrophobic..
The second room was fine and spacious, clean, warm and comfortable,if a little old fashioned. The bed was very comfortable ,the only thing was the bed base was not covered which made the room look unfinished and the furniture was a little bit Ikea.
The breakfasts were lovely as was the service and staff.
The car parking was adequate and it was about 10mins walk into Windemere and about 20 mins to the lake.Although it is situated on the main road we were on the top floor so were not bothered by the noise.
The downstairs bar and lounge area seems a bit wasted as it isnt used too much and could do with a revamp. The afternoon tea which was complementary with travelzoo was rathe strange and lacked some of the finesse of regular hotel afternoon teas.
The owners were very pleasant and offerd us a free night as we had the room problem but unfotunately we coulnt take up their kind offer due to work commitments the following day.
Just a personal comment, please remove the picture of David Cameron's smarmy face from the hallway.I dont think the majority of guests want to see it!!

Room Tip: Try and discuss your personal requirements with the owners before you book.Pictures of rooms on hote...
