“Perfect location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2013 via mobile

We'd been to Cartmel Racecourse to celebrate our wedding anniversary and headed to Bowness on the off chance we could find somewhere to stay. We struck lucky with a family room. Plenty of room for the 3 of us and really clean. The staff were great but especially the lady who helped make our room up and served breakfast (so sorry I didn't catch her name). Breakfast is yummy by the way.

Having just spent the bank holiday weekend in Windermere, we knew places would be packed and had been given the name of this pub by our B&B. We stopped off earlier in the day to book a table and were pleased we did as it got very busy as the evening wore on.

Being a bit food snobby, and doing much of our own cooking, we were not expecting much but actually had a very enjoyable meal entirely from the specials menu [which seemed to be a bit more imaginative than the standard one]. We were served mainly by Tars who was great and really friendly, in fact the whole team were very friendly to us.

We had starters of potted shrimp and mozzarella/peach salad followed by steak and ale pie for both of us. This was all washed down with a bottle of Malbec. Cost for 2 was around £65 which is fine for the food that we received.

A good place for food or just a drink on the terrace, providing above average food.

Just had a great 2 night stay at the angel hotel... everything was spot on - Room 1 which has view of the lake - food - beer and the friendlessness of the staff.... Can not be faulted and we where made so welcome.

We will be back.....What a Gem......

Room Tip: Room 1 - though it aint cheap....

Ribs weren't 'sticky' and onions weren't 'crispy'. A totally average culinary experience. Great location and some quirky ideas. Nothing to go out of your way for. The waitress couldn't care less whether we enjoyed the meal or not- to be honest she didn't ask. Didn't feel the experience was worth the money. This place has the potential to be much better.

Food is great, though not the cheapest, but quality does cost. The place accommodates children very well. Lovely location on the way up the hill out of town with nice views from the garden. Good for a pint or a bite to eat in summer, plenty room inside if the clouds move in.

We stopped in here for lunch and sat in the garden with our dog. The location was lovely and you get great views. The food was delicious and not too overpriced. The menu was really varied and had something to cater for all tastes. The inside looked lovely too, very welcoming. We will certainly return!

Stayed here over a weekend and there were 6 in our party so had three rooms in total. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again if it wasn't for the paper thin walls, we could hear everything going on in neighbouring rooms not to mention the maid who insisted on banging around in her cupboard from around 6.30 each morning. Breakfast was excellent, we also ate here one lunchtime and that too couldn't be faulted. Location wise it is very central but set well back off the main road with a lovely big beer garden. We had the smaller size rooms but there was enough room for a weekend stay, lovely toiletries in the bathroom as well as good selection if teas/coffees.
