We had gone to the Lake District for a few days away and had the bad luck to have rain every day we were there. So we needed to find some indoor activities. I saw Blackwell in one of the guides in our hotel room and thought it would be a good choice. Although my husband had been to the Lakes many times, he never knew it was there.
It was a stunningly beautiful home, perfectly restored to show off all its art nouveau splendor in addition to its modern sculpture. If you are interested in period homes, this will please you. I have been to several Frank Lloyd Wright homes and this one by Baillie Scott is superior. It had a warmth - even without furniture - that Fallingwater, for instance, lacks.
Don't miss it if you are in the Lake District.
