“Faultless Hotel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2012

We stayed here at The Linthwaite for one night and were treat like Royalty from the moment we entered the hotel till the minute we left. This hotel is just a little gem. The staff are amazing and how they remember your room number, name and drinks is beyond me. The weather was awful but just looking out to the views across the lake was awesome. The room was immaculate and all the little touches like fresh water in a lovely glass bottle and Molton Brown products in the bathroom just made it even more special. Now the food!!! So tasty and freshly done to your requirements, that is some chef. We had our son's wedding here 3 years ago and everyone still talks about it now. Nothing negative at all about this hotel, just can't wait till we book again. Oh! and don't forget to walk up to the tarn, its breathtaking. Thankyou to all at The Linthwaite. xx

This is a hotel where everything that you might think you need has already been thought of, by this very caring and efficient hotel staff. It is situated in lovely grounds in a beautiful spot with amazing views. The rooms are very comfortable and the food is absolutely fabulous. We have been to stay three times and will definitely be returning.

Room Tip: Ask for a superior room with balcony.

We stayed at the Linthwaite for just one night before we had to head back to Manchester and then to the U.S. What a lovely night it was. The weather had been very wet but the sun came out long enough for us to walk around the grounds a bit and enjoy the views of the Lake and the lovely gardens. Our room had a balcony with a beautiful view and we were able to sit out and read the paper in the morning and use the laptop. The evening was very nice, with drinks in the lounge first , a delicious dinner and then coffee on the terrace. It was especially nice to have free WiFi in the room so we could even Skype the family.

Many thanks for your very kind review.
We think wifi should be free wherever you go in hotels around the world.
I was recently charged £1 per hour!
We all hope you had a safe flight back and hope we can welcome you back again one day, maybe for more than one night!
Kind regards

We found the hotel, staff and food were all At a very high standard. We were looked after well from start to finish. We got a deal through travel zoo which meant the overall cost was very good value. The food was amazing and we would defiantly in again.

Dear Adam L,

Thanks for your review. However we do not participate in TravelZoo promotions and can't find you in our records (Bradford, Adam L) so wonder whether you may have inadvertently reviewed the wrong hotel.

Reading some of the negative reviews of Linthwaite left me quite astounded, and compelled me to write my own....
I first came to Linthwaite for lunch in 2006 when looking for a wedding venue, the view from the garden was an instant sell, and we got married there 21st June 2008. The staff are exemplary the day went without a hitch and the staff were almost invisible, the food was exceptional and the chef created an entirely vegetarian menu from the canapes to the main. I had a lot of contact from the wedding co-ordinator and being based in London this took a lot of the stress out of the process. We stayed in a stunning lake view room which was beautifully decorated and indeed one of the things that I fell in love with at Linthwaite was the exquisitely rendered shabby chic style of the hotel.
We returned to celebrate our 3 year anniversary in 2011 and again the hotel was wonderful, the staff were excellent, I have to say they were slightly cool at first, but then when I look at some of the attitudes they have deal with, it doesn't surprise me that they might be a bit reserved initially. We had a beautiful meal in the evening and the 'canape' (actually it's an amuse bouche) of avocado puree and tomato jelly which was mentioned in one review was wonderful, I don't like avocado and I thought it was a lovely (and creative) start to the meal.
The breakfast has always been lovely, it's not dashed out like a cheap hotel or served on a buffet, however, caramelised onion rosti and poached egg or vegetarian black pudding are certainly the most interesting options I've been offered for breakfast in a UK hotel.
The superior room that we booked on our second over looked the kitchen it wasn't as big as the lake view, but that said it didn't carry the price tag either, I'd push the envelope out if I stayed again, because that's part of what makes this hotel so special, that view.
I'd happily recommend Linthwaite house hotel to anyone, don't be put off by the negative reviews, they are few and far between. This isn't a hotel to pick if you are on a budget, but if you want indulgent then it's perfect.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a lake view, the rooms are larger and the view is worth the expense.

I cam see most vrecent reviewers have given this lovely hotel top marks, and I'd agree its a very nice place. We had a few comments at the time and found the staff open to suggestions and willing to help. First the not so good news, though. We arrived at one minute before check in time, to be greeted as if we were naughty children with - "your room isn't ready yet, you can't check min until AT LEAST two o'clock". I don't think the person on reception had any idea what the time was, but it doesn't really excuse the tone. Happily she changed it when we pointed out the time, and we then had the "did you have a good jouirney/is this your first visit? " sort of thing we would have expected.

Our standard room was small and a bit stuffy but we didn't stay in in much. The hotel has a lovely grounds, lake districty as you'd expect with the tarn a haven for sitting and watching.

The staff were really helpful and the food a real treat. The breakfast was varied and frshly cooked. Our only little niggle was on asking for bread and butter to go with the kippers, we got rather stale doorsteps which would have been better in the toaster. Everything else was very good - blueberry pancakes make a welcome change as a breakfast choice.

The hotel had clearly listened to earlier Trip advice and added coffee bags to the choice of drinks in the room. We couldn't open our sealed bag, as it happened, ( Tear gently - it said !) but it needed scissors. But a nice touch.

The hotel has lots of nice corners to sit and read or have a drink and staff are attentive without making you feel obliged to order. We succumbed to caipirinhas - the best we have tasted outside Brazil. The weather was rotten there too, so it revived happy memories.

Room Tip: If you intend to spend any time there, I'd say avoid the standard rooms, although we didn't...

Sue and I have stayed at Linthwaite on many occasions which continues to be a delightful, decadent treat. Our last stay was particularly memorable with a beautiful room overlooking the lake. The food was delicate, novel, appetising and delicious. My only regret was failing to win the "guess the weight of the cake" competition, this was despite having five guesses and weighing the cake! Perhaps the wine had made me a little too relaxed by this point in the evening!

Room Tip: A telescope and a TV over the bath are available in the Loft Suite.
