We actually didn't stay at the White House but ate at the restaurant and all I can say is don't do it. We arrived early were handed the menu and had a drink at the bar. Around the time of our booking (7:30pm) we were asked to order but informed all beef dishes were off the menu (4 mains out of 12). The manager/owner (Dave) took our order personally and was bemusingly rude - interupting us and abruptly telling us what information he wanted and from whom. We then sat for an hour in the bar before being taken to our table (although the restaurant was not full) and waited another half hour before the starter arrived. Again served by the manager who again was abrupt and seemed rude to us. The starter of poached pear and goat's cheese salad had almost no goat's cheese so all you could taste was pear. We then waited for another hour and a half for the main course of pheasant which was undercooked (bleeding) and had a fair bit of shot in it. The carrots were also completely raw. The party of 6 sitting next to us who arrived at the same time were just getting their starters when we left (around 11pm) Frankly the bill compared the experience was exorbitant. The only redeeming features were that the other staff seemed polite and friendly and the decor was modern and stylish.
