“Average, a bit disappointing. NOT A HOTEL.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013 via mobile

Positive:
Good, almost central location.
On site car park
Able to provide boiled eggs for breakfast (so many places dont!)
Good service from Spanish waiter at breakfast
Lovely garden
Shower good (with the massage jets turned off)
Plenty of hair/body washes
Bathrobe & slippers in room
Dvd player in room & dvds available to borrow

Negative:
We were offered an upgrade to a 'bigger' room with spa bath as 'a couple had cancelled.' This should have been £30 extra a night but we were charged £15 extra per night. This was obviously not true as upon returning from a meal out another couple were checking in and were offered a free upgrade! I have also now seen (I was taken away as a surprise so we didnt know) that free upgrades are advertised on the net and seem to be offered as standard. Presumably as we got a laterooms discount we had to pay for an upgrade (my husband is a sweetheart & always pays for an upgrade if offered) but I think this is unfair as on the reviews most people got a deal/discount of some sort & got a free upgrade.
Spa bath very noisy and short, 6 foot husband too tall to stretch out in bath yet he can stretch out in our bath at home.
Not enough water pressure for 'massage' jets in shower so didnt really work.
Room small for price.
Bed very lumpy.
Rust stain on shower tiles by soap holder
Damp stain on wall by extract fan
Duvet cover threadbare and bobbly
Sheet did not look 100% clean
Continental breakfast was tinned fruits, cornflakes or bran flakes. Fresh fruit (bananas) looked antique!
Felt 'looked down on' by owner.
Bedroom carpet needs shampooing.
'Flame' of one electric tealight broken.

Unfortunately another place that feels because of their close proximity to a huge tourist attraction they can charge what they like and not provide good value. We stayed a little further out last time and would probably stay there next time as we were made to feel more welcome at the other establishment.

Ooh dear, we perhaps need to explain a little about upgrades as it can be a bit confusing. We make available Classic and Superior rooms on the booking sites, and have indeed offrered a free upgrade if the superior are available at the point of arrival. The customer in this case was offereed an upgrade to a Deluxe spa room which is not on the booking sites, and which is not a free upgrade. We often do this, rather than have a deluxe spa room empty we offer it to a booked arrival at half price. If you are booked in with us just ask, you never know! :-) Thats the advantage of not being a hotel. Thanks.

Just had 2 nights here on a living social deal which made it very good value for money and although it rained most of the time had a very nice stay. Tony met us on arrival, very friendly. Had the Penthouse which has seating area, double shower and spa bath, really nice room. Staff very friendly especially person who served us breakfast (from Spain but sorry don't know his name). Good selection for breakfast fruit, cereals and full english which was cooked to perfection.
Very good location, situated up a hill so very quiet but close to shops, pubs and restaurants. Has a very nice garden but unable to use it due to the weather.
Can't fault this place and will stay again if visiting Bowness.

Thanks for your positive feedback, we are quite lucky to have a great location close to the centre of the restauant area as well as the waterfront, but that little hill keeps us nice and quiet. We hope to see you back soon.

Just returned from a lovely break in the Lakes with my partner.
We stayed in the Fairfield and enjoyed all aspects of this. The hosts were warm and friendly in particular Tony who went out of his way to ensure we were happy...he even cleared the snow from our windscreen in the morning...
If you're looking for a quiet place to stay then this is it...
Very basic but all done well.

Thanks to the guests for their kind words and we are glad they enjoyed their stay. Clearing the snow was a spur of the moment thing, I was out clearing the drive and it just seemed like a good idea. Hope to see you back. Tony

This was our first experience of staying in a B&B guesthouse as appose to a hotel and it did not disappoint! Our experience was superb. We discovered the house after seeing a fantastic offer on Living Social so as a birthday treat we thought we'd give it a try.
We were welcomed by Tony who was friendly and informative. We were shown our room which was beautifully decorated with a four poster bed and spa bath which was a real treat. What struck me most was the attention to detail, nothing was too much trouble. The bathroom boasted an array of lovely toiletries, robes and slippers. We also had battery operated candles to use in the room/bathroom which was a lovely little touch. The room was incredibly clean and very cosy, the beds were made/toiletries replenished on a daily basis.
During our stay at Fairfield it snowed quite heavily, the gardens looked beautiful and the owners had even placed a tray near the door for wet shoes so there was no worry about wetting carpets. Tony very kindly cleared the car windscreen on many occasions throughout the day in case we wanted to venture out.
The house is just a short walk from the centre of Bowness and in theory you could park your car up and never have to move it again for your entire stay! Bowness has lovely little shops and restaurants all of which seemed to serve lovely food. We were given a front door key so that if we wanted to stroll down the hill to the pub in the evening we could then let ourselves back in. Breakfast was lovely and made to order, again nothing was too much trouble. There was a choice of cereals, fruit, cooked breakfast and healthy options!
All in all, a wonderful stay and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Thank you so much, we will definitely be returning in the near future.

It was wonderful to see our guests back again, and it was a heck of an evening. We are fortunate to have a 4wd vehicle and so realy it was the only logical thing to do to help you. But we are glad it was appreciated, and look forward to seeing you again. Please bring some sunshine next time :-)

This is a very friendly, clean and cosey place to stay, one of the best hotels i've stayed in. Idealy situated for your every needs. Staff make you feel welcome the only fault is I didn't stay long enough.

Room Tip: Get a room with a spa bath... you won't regret it.

Thank you for your kind words. When we decided to have spa baths in our 3 deluxe rooms, we had in mind to create a fun environment. Bear in mind we are aimed at couples having quality time together (hence no children), and so it was an obvious choice. Also please remenber those rooms are not visible online except on our own website. Thanks

The owners were very pleasant but as we were visiting with our dog we got a small, very poor room on the ground floor. We were charged £79.00 plus £10 for our mini schnauzer overpriced for what we got. After having read the reviews and seen the photographs we were extremely disappointed.

Room Tip: Leave your pet at home if you would like an advertised free upgrade or to get a decent room.

We are sorry we fell short of expectations this time. The little dog was perfectly behaved and we enjoyed making a fuss of him.
