“Beautiful room - great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2009

We stayed at the cranleigh for 1 night in August and got a late deal on their website for Room 8. We thought that the website was brilliant as each room had a number of pictures and these reflected the room perfectly.

The room did not disappoint when we arrived as the decor was gorgeous and the bed was massive and really comfy. The location within Bowness is brilliant as you are only a two minute walk from a number of bars and restaurants and a 5 min walk from the lake side.

The only slight downside to the room was that room 9 next door had a spa bath and the couple in there decided to use it at half 11 at night and you could clearly hear this through the wall.

We will definitely stay here again and would love to be able to afford room 17 or 18 next visit!

a suprise anniversary break . the cranleigh was nicely decorated ,clean and very central. the staff were very polite and attentitive. the extras of flowers a teddy bear and rose petals offer a nice touch. the owners offered assistance in places to visit , overall a fabulous place although not cheap we would definatley recommend . the breakfast was nicely presented with lots of choice. Even though there is no bar facilities alcohol can still be purchased and consumed in the lounge or the comfort of your room.

We have just returned from a three night break at this fantastic hotel. It was exactly as described on the website and is approximately 200metres from the town centre of Bowness. The room we stayed in (room 4) was of a very high standard and the bathroom was simply stunning. The breakfast was of a very high quality and the staff extremely friendly and helpful. On arrival, the hotel owner gave us a map complete with a list of recommended pubs and restaurants. We made good use of this during our stay. If you do visit Bowness, ensure you try Villa Positano.........truly excellent food and service.

As for the negative comments we have seen on this site, these people must have had another agenda. Our stay was great, the people friendly, location superb and it really did exceed our expectations. We will most certainly return.

We stayed for the weekend with family and after a long 5 hr drive was greeted with the owner telling me this was a B&B not a hotel when I asked where the toilets were in reception! Not the most welcome start. He seemed to be having a bad day as this attitute had also rolled over to my parents whom commented that he'd been a little offish with them too. The rooms are lovely if not a little over done and there are limited TV channels, when you have one in the bath you expect they'd have this sorted. Breakfast is served in a 1/2 hr slot. Not ideal when you either might want to be up and out early to explore or as we did the first night have a little lie-in. I felt they do this to save costs as it's in and out and your not made to feel you can relax. My mother and I then thought we'd try out the facilities as stated on the webpage. It's the most disgusting and dirty "country club" with the smallest pool and facilities (with no private changing rooms) around. We were there and back in 20 mins, total waste of time, why they would advertise this is beyond me. If your just looking for a cosy room, it's nice but it lacks any genuine charm and is very overpriced!

First may we thank you for your constructive review. As the owner and would like to respond with the following observations. We are a 5 star AA Gold guesthouse not a Hotel. The rooms have all been designed individually by a professional interior designer each room with its own style. You may have chosen a room not to your taste even though on our web site you are able to see in detail all the rooms. The Lake District went digital recently and our TV's offer 30 + channels to watch. The breakfast is served from 8.30 - 9.30 every morning which is extensive using only the best local products. The Country club that is located just up the road from the Guesthouse is the only club that is available in the Windermere area. All Guesthouses and small hotels are members so their guests are able to use the facilities if they choose. I am aware these facilities are in need of an upgrade and have personally written to the owners and pointed this out, however there are no other options at the moment and we have chosen to provide these facilities for free to our guest rather than not having the facilities for you to use. You were informed of our breakfast times on arrival and in every room we have detailed information packs giving information on our facilities and the area where to eat and much more if you had chosen to read them. I cannot comment on why you feel the rooms were a little over done as I do not understand what you mean. Our rooms offer facilities way behond the norm in order to provide our guests with home comforts and luxury bathrooms in a fantastic location.

I stayed here for three nights with my girlfriend and we had a wonderful time. We choose the room with a private bathroom which is just across the hall from the room. I really liked the whole hotel and the people running it were really really nice. The breakfast was amazing down to the last detail with beautiful plates and cutlery. My sister has just turned 30 and I'm paying for her to stay there with her partner in the autumn - can't get a stronger endorsement than that!

jive just stayed in the cranleigh at the weekend in room 6, very nice all the mod cons ect superb bathroom and good breakfast menu and the staff very freindly, location was excellent just a little noisy woken up occasionally by road traffic also it was just a little pricey for the room which was quite small but apart from that very nice which i suppose you should expect that for £155 a night
