“Good hotel with friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013

This is a good value privately owned hotel with motivated staff prepared to do a little bit extra to make your visit enjoyable. The waitress at breakfast was amazing being able to show people to their tables, take their orders, serve the meals keep the hot drinks topped up and clear and prepare the tables single handedly without anyone having to wait for anything.

We recently held our daughters baptism and 1st birthday celebration at the Borough and we were really impressed by the service we received. We dealt with the Operations Manager, Tim, who made the day as stress free as possible, even down to letting us drop off all our decorations the evening before and setting the room up for us so we didn't need to rush around in the morning before the church service. We opted for hot bowl food and it was really nice - we received lots of positive comments from our guests too. We had the Gladstone bar area all to ourselves as there was another party using the function room - we think this worked in our favour. The party was in the day and we did not use a bedroom so I cannot comment on the hotel bedrooms.

I hired the King Room for a very special celebration sit down luncheon with the Lord-Lieutenant, the Mayor and Mayoress, Lancaster Herald of Arms and twenty other people.
The food was delicious, the service attentive without being oppressive and in short it was all simply wonderful.
If the need/chance to return arises then I shall certainly be back.

I had a pleasant stay at the Borough Arms Hotel. Obviously it's not a luxury hotel. It is a traditional hotel which has been tasteful updated.

My ensuite room was spacious and functional. The free wi-fi connection was excellent. Very small things let the Borough down a little - the frame from my my glass paneled shower was loose; there was complimentary soap but no shower gel; there were spare pillows but no spare blanket; etc. Nevertheless, I would return to the hotel and can recommend others to stay there.

This hotel has a very good standard of service and professionalism. The food choice and quality is good and the room are clean tidy and functional. 7 family members enjoyed dinner bed and breakfast and then 40 family & friends came to a function during the afternoon which was a sad event but made all the better by the understanding sympathy and professionalism of the staff and management. Thank to you all.

My family, fiancé and I stayed at this hotel for 1 night. It is 2 mins away from Keele University which is where we were dropping my little brother off the next day. So good location for us.
The hotel is very dated and really does need redecorating. The rooms we had were in the hotel itself and were very basic. Beds were not comfy and we didn't get much sleep. Not a good place if you don't like road noise either.
There was tea and coffee in the room though and a flat screen tv. Only soap in the bathroom nothing else so you will need shampoo/ body wash.
We ate in the hotel, the food was nice and a good price.
Breakfast was also quite nice apart from some of the food being cold.
Overall I wouldn't stay again but this is mainly due to lack of sleep.

stayed here for 3 nights recently and found the hotel old, drab and quite depressing. i know it is a cheap hotel but there are better cheaper hotels, the road is busy which interferes with sleeping, the hotel decor does not look like it has been done up in decades. i have asthma and have not had an asthma attack in over 15 years, until i stayed here, i spent my days coughing with a tight chest. the staff at reception are pleasant and helpful. thats the only positive. I would not recommend and I will not return.

Room Tip: stay in the annex... its quieter
