“Welcoming, Clean and Good Priced.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

Me and my partner regulary stay at the hotel, having just sold our property and living with parents, we like to have a break where we can relax and unwind.
We choose this hotel because of the welcoming staff, cleanliness of the rooms and the resonable prices.
Over the past few months i have also attended two wedding partys to which both were made a memorable day for all.
I would recommend the chicken jalfrezi from the bar menu and the breakfast is very good for the money.
The staff can not help you enough and i have not met a member that is not friendly and happy to please you.
We will defenately continue to use this hotel.

Room Tip: smokers can sleep in the outside shellys.

“A step back in time”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

Exactly what you would expect from a hotel 30 years ago. A pub with rooms and a function suite attached. Cheap and cheerful but not cheering. I cannot fault the manager though he was very helpful. His staff were however lacking in the intelligence dept, well the ones I dealt with anyway. Breakfast was average and served in a room with artex ceiling, and decor from the early 80's.

“Wouldn't recommend.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012 via mobile

Room was very small with inadequate lighting and the bed was very uncomfortable.
You get what you pay for and the price reflects this.
The Reception staff were friendly and helpful upon arrival, although I was on the understanding that I had paid for my room on booking it a good couple of months before only to be told that no payment had been taken from my account when I booked and that I would have to pay there and then. Bit disappointing.

“Basic, but OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

Hotel needed refurbishing, a lick of paint and better bathrooms!!!
Breakfast was excellent. The Pub/Bar next to the hotel, with door inbetween, was nice, but it was not always open for public.

Haven't eaten there, but found a very nice Indian Restaurant 'Jalsa' around the corner. Very Very good one!!!

Room Tip: The rooms 'outside' the main building may be a better option than these inside, beter check...

“Short Walk from City Centre - Excellent Location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

Nice stay during the weekend decided based on the TA rating and not disappointed. Stayed here 2 nights without breakfast with and the prices are cheaper than most hotels around. Slight busy and crowded as there are function on this particular weekend. Place are neat, clean and well decorated. Easy access to the main road and bus route and right close in the middle of the city. The plus point is there are many restaurants, take-away out-lets and newsagent near to it. The Turkish take-away that I have visited is nice, delicious, big portion and prices are reasonable opens till 4 am. I would definitely stay here on my next visit.

Room Tip: Excellent Location close to city centre and food outlets.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Borough Arms Hotel and Restaurant is one of the oldest established hotels in the Newcastle-under-Lyme and Stoke-on-Trent areas, with history dating back to 1783. The hotel is very much of the style associated with a traditional English town centre coaching inn, yet has been sensitively and subtly refined to offer the comfort and modern standards demanded by today's visitors. Independently owned and managed, the hotel retains many period features and takes great pride in offering a very personal service. As a valued guest, you may be confident that we will do our utmost to ensure your comfort, whether you are staying in one of our 40 centrally heated, en-suite rooms, visiting us for a meal in the restaurant, or using our conference and banqueting facilities. ... more   less
