My husband and I have just returned after staying one night at the royal oak and one night was enough. We arrived in Wetherby about 2.30pm and before looking around the town, we thought we would get settled into our room first. At the Royal Oak here was no friendly welcome just a "Come in, but I don't know if your rooms ready yet" then, "Yes it is, can you fill in this form, Heres your room"
No introduction, no inquiry of a good or bad journey, No plesantrys at ALL. We were never once asked if we needed any thing or if our room was alright for us, at best we felt invisable. We left never even knowing the owners names and the wife never once approached or spoke to us, with the exception of served us in the everning at the bar. The same at breakfast no conversation, not even to asked if we wonted more tea or toast.
After breakfast about 9.45 we went back to our roon to pack and get ready to go to the race, at 10.50am there was a knock at door. Not to wish us a safe journey home, but to tell us we should have been out of our room an hour ago! Obviously you must be expected to eat and get out from under thier feet.
If we had of been asked how our room was, we would have told them. We had no hot water, only
luck warm. That the smell of feebreeze or what ever they used in the room and on the bedding was so over powering it hurt the back of your nose and gave us a headache. We had to sleep with the windows open all night and even so the smell had the power to wake me from sleep, makes you wonder what they trying to mask
To be fair it was a nice, big and warm room(even with the window open all night) a comfortable bed & one of the biggest onsuit bathroom I've seen. The bar was lovely with a log fire and cask ales, the breakfast well cooked.
