“Good Food & Surroundings but could be even better”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2013

A quick overnight in Weymouth at the end of August gave us a chance to eat at the Monkey's Fist in pretty Brewers Square near the harbour.
On arriving the restaurant wasn't full but we were told that the open plan kitchen was small & so they couldn't accomodate us for an hour, but liking the look of it we decided to return after a drink.
The starter of scallops & black pudding was amazing, as was the perfectly cooked whole seabass as a main. It would have been even better if we had a few minutes gap between meals instead of the mains coming very soon after the starter.
We didn't have a dessert but a nearby table did seem to have an issue with theirs.
We really like this restaurant with its jazzy music & tasteful decor.
A slight improvement in organisation would make it perfect.

“Local harbor side gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

Visited sept 14th for the first time following some glowing reports we were not disappointed
The food was excellent, fresh & local ingredients
The bistro was full &people were being turned away fortunately we had booked 2 days before we had a friendly warm welcome from the manageress & the waitress whose fist night it was & was being trained very successfully by the manageress the service was excellent attentive without being fussy
We cannot complete this review without mentioning the acting head chef Grant Turner, what a great example of how a chef should be apart from his excellent cooking skills he took time out to visit all the tables & talk to the customers what is more impressive is that he is 18 years old this level of communication skills is rarely found in chefs twice his age & although now retired I have interviewed & appointed chefs throughout my career, this chef will go far & this bistro can only prosper with Grant heading up the kitchen
We will certainly be returning

“Yet another mediocre restaurant in weymouth”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2013

Visited this Restaurant with friends on Saturday evening who had eaten here a few weeks earlier.. Initial impression was very good, atmosphere was also very good. Two of us ordered dorset blue vinney and leek tart for starter. They must have used a surgeons scalpel to slice it as we have never been served such a miniscule portion. It was also tasteless, much like the game terrine that also lacked flavour.

3 out of the 4 main courses went back. If a restaurant cant cook chips then this speaks for itself.

My husbands sea bass was good, however was accompanied by cold potatoes and a desertspoon of salad. The belly of pork was also half the size that the same person had two weeks earlier.

Once we sent food back the attitude of staff changed with no apology offered.

Weymouth seems to have a high turnover of restaurants and this could soon be another one.

“A little gem in a Dorset setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2013 via mobile

I have eaten here many times, and the food never disappoints. A great location, situated in an arms throw from the more commercial side of weymouth. The monkeys fist offers friendly staff who are more than happy to serve and chat with you, offering local knowledge and a general energy for the local area. The food is great, sampling from the best local sources amplifying what the Dorset coast has to offer! From the stunning breakfast to the tasty dinners , the monkeys fist is just what the seaside ordered .

“Pleasant and relaxed!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2013

Visited this restaurant on Friday 23 August with 6 year old and baby in tow! Had a reservation indoors but weather lovely and brewers quay setting idyllic required us to sit outside. Had all three courses. Food was lovely staff were very personable and had a very relaxed and pleasant meal. Had a very nice bottle of Pinot Grigio along with some very nice Peroni beer all very well priced. One little suggestion might be to have the odd cushion for little people to use when sitting outside as chair heights for them a little on the low side. Otherwise perfect.
