Owner description: Sandworld Weymouth is set within Lodmoor Country Park, Weymouth - next door to the SeaLife Centre, and next to a large car and coach park. Sandworld is an all weather attraction, showcasing the talents of International and UK Sand Sculptors undercover in a huge marquee. There is a large covered sand pit, and visitors are encouraged to "have a go" at sandsculpting having been inspired by what they have seen. It is sometimes possible to engage with artists as they work on new pieces which are added to the site from time to time, and always possible to relax with a drink, snack or icecream at the on site cafe. Activities such as filling sand bottles are available at extra cost, and a gift shop completes the experience where you can buy a postcard of your favourite sculpture or a souvenier of your visit. The attraction has a link to Weymouths long tradition of Sand Sculpting, as Mark Anderson - co-founder of Sandworld - is the grandson of Fred Darrington, who began sculpting on Weymouth beach back in the 1920's. Mark is an International Master in his own right, and can often be found in the sandpit at Sandworld helping aspiring sculptors - young and old - to engage in this most therapeutic of activities. Length of visit times varies widely depending on the individual or groups' level of interest and/or engagement with the art, and of course the weather (although most of the exhibits are undercover, a visit in November will not be the same as a visit in August). Some visitors stay 10 minutes, some stay all day, either way is cool. All are welcome at Sandworld - please come and see us! Open between Easter and Halloween - see website for dates and times.

“A bit pricey”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013

The sculptors are obviously extremely talented and the sculptures were great. We just felt it was a bit expensive and there was a lot of equipment lying around which distracted you from the sculptures.

“Definitely worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013

Great sculptures in sand world and the staff are very friendly. We were only in there about 30 minutes, it's quite small but the sand work definitely makes up for it. The sci fi theme is great, and you're sure to be wowed by the work - all done within 7-10 days. The lady told us the Thunderbirds model took the longest, this was my personal favourite.

We used a money off coupon in the Dorset attractions booklet and it cost about £11 for my partner and I (infant was free).

“Boarding School Outing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

We were a bit worried as some reviews were suggesting it was all over rather quickly. I phoned and spoke to a very helpful lady who booked the children into a workshop at no extra cost. They loved the sculptures having never seen anything like it before. The workshop was fantastic and the staff were patient and kind. We could have stayed all day and the children have not stopped talking about it. They will never make a normal sandcastle again.
Thank you Sandworld for a lovely day.

“Amazing place to visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

This is amazing - you can get £1 of per person with a Dorset attractions leaflet. The time spent on these sculptures are well worth it - not a whole day out but not to be missed!

“Fantastic Workmanship...'Sandmasons'”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013

A unique attraction suitable for all ages. I took my 10yr old grandson & he thought it was 'Epic' which apparently means top marks. The detail of each sculpture is amazing. The whole experience was made more fun looking for 'Where's Wally' cards hidden around the display for children to count and be given a lolly if they got it correct!
There is a cafe (inside & outside seating) which is nice to sit and have coffee while the children can play in a large safe sand area with buckets & spades which keeps them amused for ages.
A shop completes the visit with interesting novelties for sale, not at all expensive.
It doesn't take very long to see all the models but it is such excellent work and a nice place it is well worth a visit.
The staff were very friendly & it seems special events will be featured throughout the season.
Take a camera!!!
