Have just returned from the Huntley Arms Hotel, and can not understand what all the bad reviews are about. Excellent refurbished rooms, good food, and nice friendly staff.Have had a wonderfull holiday and would recommend this hotel to any one.Having stayed in a wide range of hotels both at home and abroad this one rates quite highly.I notice the reviews are mostly form 2-3 years ago so ownership has probably changed for the better. Go on give it a go !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have just got back from a dredful stay in this'hotel' and are currently writting the letter of complaint to the coach tour company; went looking for info and found this site! It's been closed due to health and safety since last December 2006 but it was open but not ready or fit when we arrived with 44 new friends on Monday 9th April 2007. No hot water, no curtains at windows, no kettles, no bins, no room for bedside tables let alone a lamp to go on it, small rooms, unproffessional staff, lack of staff.
The only good thing was the food, if you got served to get what you ordered and not what was just left.
Very disapointing & reading this web site NOTHING HAS CHANGED.

We booked a coach holiday to the hotel, I had read the reviews but didnt believe some of the reviews.

On the first day of our arrival the hotel looked okay but very basic - it was clean. When we arrived for our evening meal it took a long time for any waiteress/waiter to appear to take the orders.

The second day was okay but it took a long time for our evening meal to arrive but they did seem a bit more organised than the previous evening.

The third day the hot water (or lack of it) was very limited. Evening meal was very cold and felt like it had been placed into a oven for the duration of the day.

Fourth day - no heating or hot water - apparently this is a regular occurance in the hotel - they have been informed that they need a new boiler but dont want to spend the money on it!! Evening meal just got worse - we had to leave it and go to the local takeway!!!

Would not got back to this hotel even if they paid me - the only thing that was good about the hotel was that some of the staff was friendly.

Our one night stay began with us arriving at about 1.30 on Saturday afternoon, only to be told by a very surly woman at reception (who turned out to be the manager) that we couldn't check in till after 3. When we were eventually allowed access to our family room , it was spacious and seemed clean enough, but didn't smell very pleasant. Furniture was old and tatty. We had no shower - only a short hose attached to the side of the bath. Dinner was a joke - waiting staff who had no idea what they were meant to be doing and pretty diabolical food. Breakast wasn't much better. This hotel could be fantastic if the owners (Swallow Hotels) spent a few million on upgrading the rooms, and invested in training their staff properly - from the manager down. Unless that happens, give it a wide berth.

Despite the poor reviews we stayed in this hotel last weekend as we were attending a wedding and transportation was being put on to/from the hotel.

When we arrived we were told that because there was a late bar/disco/karaoke that night and there would be local people as well as guests there, we could not charge anything to our rooms. Fine. We weren't planning to use the bar anyway.

We went to our room and the corridors had that mouldy smell that old buildings sometimes have. Our room was clean and freshly furnished and smelled fine. There was a note in the room about the disco that would be on until 3 a.m.

That night, arriving back from the wedding at 1 a.m. and the disco/karaoke was in full swing. Groups of local girls were standing on the pavements outside the hotel talking loudly to one another. We went to our room. We could hear the bass from the disco thumping through the walls. We could also hear the muffled noise of the DJ/MC when he was urging people to dance/karaoke/whatever. Needless to say we did not sleep well.

The next morning, we had breakfast. The eggs were VERY overcooked. It took 20+ minutes to get toast once our hot food had been served. We also had to ask the waiter to clear some of the plates off our table when it started to get full. The variety of the food was good and there was plenty for vegetarians to eat (including cheese, yogurt and fruit). The staff were surly at best.

Moving on to check-out, we asked for a reduction because of the noise the night before. The woman at the desk tried to tell us that the disco had been put on specially for the wedding guests. (So why was the bar heaving with locals when we arrived back? Why couldn't we charge things back to our room if the event was supposed to be for hotel guests?) She refused to give us a discount. We refused to pay. Meanwhile the person ahead of us in the queue had had his credit card rejected (despite the hotel having done a pre-authorisation at check in). When he phoned his credit card company, they said the charge *had* gone through. The hotel staff demanded payment again and also humiliated him in the busy lobby in front of many other guests for having had his credit card rejected.

And did I mention the sink in our bathroom had no cold water pressure?

Needless to say, we will never, ever stay there again. Some of the skint friends of the bride and groom stayed in much cheaper B&Bs. I think they had the right idea.
