“Well worth the price - great value hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012

This was a late booking for me though I must say what a surprise this hotel was given the lowly £54 B&B rate! I arrived late in the evening and was greeted by a very friendly member of staff. The room was very pleasant and clean and the bed was super comfy. Just perfect after a 300 mile drive. Breakfast was great and yet again the staff were excellent. I've stayed in many 'overated' and 'overpriced' hotels around the AB area but thankfully, this is not one of them. The hotel is a little remote if you're travelling to or working in Aberdeen but given the superb price, friendly staff, cleanliness, great breakfast etc it sure is worth the 30 minute drive to Aberdeen - at least for me. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone and would have no hesitation in staying again when I'm next in the area.

I chose this hotel because of the positive reviews which appear on various websites, and wasn't disappointed. Our room (a twin en suite) was very comfortable and well furnished. The bathroom was spotless and the shower more powerful than any other I've ever used (a big plus point in my view). The public bar is frill free (big bonus) with comfy sofas and a nice traditional bar to prop yourself up against if that's your preference. Good range of beers at competitive prices. The red and white wine served in the bar is in small quarter bottles, South African, and of good quality. The natives are very friendly! We ate dinner in the bar because it was the village bingo night in the restaurant. The food was delicious and the pepper sauce with the beef fillet was one of the best I've tasted. Herself's fish was equally good. The staff were outstanding. The lady who served us in the bar morphed into our waitress for dinner, and was on parade first thing next morning to serve breakfast. She was welcoming and attentive as was the owner. The quantity of red wine consumed with dinner, meant I gave the "full Scottish" a miss in the morning but the breakfast menu is full of choice and Herself's poached eggs were faultless. Never under estimate the skill needed to poach an egg well. All in all a first class stay and I'd have no hestitation in staying again or recommending the Commercial to others. If you're visiting Royal Deeside, definitely worth a short detour.

Needed to stay over in Aberdeen last minute and was shocked at the cost of the usual 'chain' hotels - Holiday Inn Express £130!! Found the Commercial on a deal £54.00, was not sure what to expect but was pleassantly surprised. I was in one of the refurbished rooms, very nice all amenities included. Ate in the bar, good pub food and excellent service from all the staff. It is a 30 minute drive from Aberdeen but if you can do that it is well worth the trip. Great value.

Room Tip: Refurbished room was very nice.

Stayed here recently, thought it was very good value, clean and comfortable. My only complaint is the walls are quiet thin so you can hear the TV of the next room, also can be a bit noisy as the rooms are above the dining room so can hear at breakfats.
However, apart form that I thought it was excellent value, breakfast was good with lots of choice (although it took ages for the toast to appear). Rooms are well appointed with TV, hairdryer, toiletries and a fury covered hot bottle which was a nice touch and I did use.
Will stay again.

This is an excellent hotel located in a very quaint Scottish rural village. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful as are the staff. Accommodation and food excellent and, as we are fishers, it provides a great warming atmosphere to return to after a day on the river. I cannot recommend it highly enough

Really impressed with this hotel. The rooms are modern, well equipped and very clean. All the staff were friendly and helpful and dinner and breakfast both excellent. It was also excellent value for money.

We often drink and eat in The Commercial. It is one of the few places I have found that has the relaxed, laid back, drinking atmosphere (but very sociable, as people do talk to each other)
As well as serving fab food
And the Juke box is great too
