I notice all the other reviews are either 4 or 5 star. However, I just found the Minster just "ok"; in fact we were in and out of the minster within 15 minutes. Yes it is a beautiful building, but the lack of information points / boards and potential audio guides meant there was no contextual context. It just became a beautiful building. I did notice all the plinthed figure and statues with all their faces still intact whereas at most / all the other cathedrals I have visited they have been defaced (during the civil war and all that). Who were they? Why did they survive? Never did find out.
Overall, I would say the Minster is aimed as the worshipper rather than the tourist. Nothing wrong with that as that is after all its prime purpose. But as a tourist destination I must say it was just "OK". Sorry.
Ps just pleased there is no charge to enter as it would at present have been poor value for money, though on the other hand I would be quite pleased to pay if this also contributed to putting the historic building into context as well pay for its upkeep.
