After reading such positive reviews previously we had high expectations. We had a groupon voucher for our party of 6 which made it good value and the portions were certainly plentiful. As there was 6 of us we had decidied to view the menu on line before going and had selected our choices unfortunately on arrival both the starters we had chosen had been removed (crossed out) from the menu and then they told us of 5 - 6 items that were not available from the main menu as 4 of us had chosen these items we then had to reconsider only to be told half way through the order that they didn't have enough for our 2nd choices. Having finally ordered we then waited over 40 minutes for our starters. Our 2 boys had ordered BBQ chicken wings which were very hot and spicy, a fact which was not mentioned on the menu and you wouldn't expect from BBQ. The staff were friendly and helpful and apologised for the wait so the problem is clearly in the kitchen. The main courses were well presented and large but we were surprised by the response of the guy who asked us if our meals were ok. When we remarked that the pepper sauce was too hot (Peppery) and overpowering we were advised that was how it was supposed to be. I only ate any of it to warm up my cold steak. I ordered blue and knew if I sent it back it would come back over cooked so persevered.I have eaten and made pepper sauce on numerous occasions and never tasted anything like it., I usually use green peppercorns not black as too fiery However the Diane sauce was inexcusable. As 3 chefs we all know the primary ingredients for a diane sauce are brandy cream and mushrooms. There was some dubious cream used as it had split but the other ingredient was tomato ketchup or puree or something similar and as my mother in law hates tomatoes when she tipped it on her steak it ruined her dinner and she was unable to eat it but instead of apologising the guy said I don't put mushrooms in my diane sauce. If you want to change a classic sauce call it by a different name but if you offer diane sauce you should provide diane sauce. The choice of desserts was also dissapointing.
The waitresses were good, the restaurant was nicely decorated and the trains were not too much of a distraction but the overall experience was less than expected.
