“A luxurious base to explore the New Forest”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

The driveway from the road to Rhinefield House is about half a mile long. That should give you an idea of the kind of grandiose place the Rhinefield is! The first impressions are great- welcoming front of house, communal wellies for you to use to explore the magnificent New Forest surroundings. The hotel itself is huge, and like the hedge in the garden, maze like. Big, generous rooms with great quality bedding and decor really add to the stay. I didn't eat at the restaurant besides breakfast which is served in a homely, bright old dining room.

Whilst you may be tempted to stay in the hotel, put your wellies on and take a walk- you'll be delighted with the New Forest greens and browns, and probably see a fair few wild horses, deer and maybe some pigs! And when you return, you walk up the long drive to the hotel and know that the countryside and hotel are the perfect compliment for each other.

We absolutely loved this hotel. Stylish, modern, clean and luxurious. The room was perfect, food in the restaurant was out of this world and the surroundings amazing. Breakfast was also good. We went for a romantic break and although expensive, it is worth every penny. Couldn't ask for more.

The first thing that strikes you on the drive up to the hotel is what an absolutely beautiful building, its location really could not be any better, it is set right in the middle of the forest and as you approach the hotel you have all the ponies walking around you - simply breathtaking!
When we went to check in we were told our room wasn't quite ready but Mitchell on reception did everything possible to ensure this was rectified quickly and in the meamtime let us change our clothes in another room so that we could go out on our bikes.
Whilst we found all the staff at the hotel extremely friendly and helpful I do feel Mitchell deserves a special mention as he really did seem to go out of his way for us and made our stay even more special. As the hotel restaurant was full for dinner that evening he was only too happy to arrange a meal for us elsewhere, several places were booked but he recommended a lovely french restaurant for us and we had an amazing meal there.
Our room was lovely, very spacious, bright and clean and my other half loved the size of the TV! We had afternoon tea in the bar area which was delicious. My only slight gripe was the price of the drinks, whilst I appreciate when you stay in a 4* Hotel you pay more than the market rate I felt £9 odd for a white wine spritzer was just too much. I would have drank far more if the prices had been more reasonable!
The only other slight problem was my breakfast (scrambled egg) was cold and I had to send it back to be re-done, but the staff were very apologetic and the next lot a received was delicious.
Unfortunately we did not have time to use the leisure facilities so we cannot comment on that but all in all I would definitely recommend the hotel and hopefully we will be able to go back there one day for a longer stay.

Came here on a works do. Brilliant location in the middle of its own grounds. Water features in old stone surrounds everywhere. Very ambient. The house looks very ancient but was built around 1880. Magnificent inside and out and retainnig old world charm. Rooms were delightful. Large, modern, tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean, everything you needed on hand and very quiet. HUGE bed which was very comfortable. Lashings of high pressure hot water at all times. Beautiful enormous luxury towels.I liked the room decor. Tastful, muted colours, very restful.
Some suggestions however:
Finding your way around inside short of a sat nav is challenging. Maybe a plan of rooms etc given either to guests or pinned up in strategic places could help!
The Pool ( once you find it) was very dimly lit and although clean, warm etc needed to be better lit as there is no natural light getting in.
The web site is lacking quite a bit of information. Your directions page doesnt have the sat nav combination or even the post code on it
Although it mentions the Spa it doesnt say its facilities ( Gym and Pool, Sauna, Hot tub etc) were free to hotel guests. Maybe everyone else takes that as read- but its not always the case in all hotels so it would be good to know that up front.
The web site doesnt even memtion the hotel WiFi connection which it clearly had but it would be good to get confirmation of that up front and that its free etc.
Found you hired bikes- so why not say that on your web site?
Walking maps available at the hotel ( a print out) were not good. The only short suggested walk was to go along the road!! Maybe some print outs of the locality from the OS maps in large scale would be good which then shows lots of lovely off road walking paths.
Food was lovely, well served, good selection, nice wines. Breakfast laid out in the amazing Al Hambra room ( a bot of Granada home from home) was very good serving a slection of cold and hot courses. Again very helpful staff. I had a thoroughaly enjoyable stay.

We stayed for two nights to celebrate my wife's birthday. The location of this hotel is stunning. We stayed in a beautiful room overlooking the gardens. On arrival the staff on reception were polite and courteous. We had booked a dining package and the quality of the food from the table d'hote menu on both nights was very good. However, on the second evening we were in the restaurant for just under two hours and the same piece of music just played over and over again. It was Shostakovic's The Gadfly - and whilst it is a beautiful piece of music, by the 15th time it is rather irritating. Why it is necessary to have any music at all in a dining room as atmospheric as this one beats me! About half way through our dinner the waiting staff decided to start laying up the empty tables for breakfast which was most unwelcome. They did stop when we asked them to but why do it in the first place?
The hotel is clearly aimed at the wedding market, which to be fair is made clear on the website. The layout of the hotel is clearly laid out to facilitate this.

Dear Guest
Thank you for your recent posting on Trip Advisor and I was glad to read you had enjoyed your stay with us. I will most certainly invest in some new music and talk to the restaurant team about their over zealous table laying.

We had our wedding here on Friday 21st September. From the moment we viewed the hotel, we knew it was the one. The location is simply amazing, this hotel has the wow factor. The room for the ceremony is exquisite and has the slight feel of a church. The main hotel has some beautiful rooms on one side of the hotel and on the opposite side there are a number of extremely well decorated and fully equipped apartments for hire by the week, all set in the middle of the New Forest, what more could you want?

We decided to book 4 of the apartments (each sleeping 6 people via beds and sofa bed) with our families and friends for the week leading up to our wedding and we all had a fabulous time. The apartments are very quaint with their own individual characteristics and are fully stocked to allow you to live as you normally would. The managers of the apartments are helpful and professional, they even sent us a wedding congratulations card which was a lovely touch. There is a very small gym and spa area for the hotel and apartment guests to use, there is also an outdoor swimming pool and tennis courts. Bikes can be hired direct from the hotel and there are plenty of walks which you can take from the hotel. Brockenhurst is an 8 minute drive away.

In the lead up to our wedding our planner, Hannah, was incredibly professional and helpful, we had a final meeting and menu tasting included in our package and we were very grateful for both. The help and professionalism of all of the staff at Rhinefield House was second to none. Andrea and Mitchell on reception were fantastic all week, superbly presented and always welcomed us with a smile and nothing was too much trouble, they are both a credit to the hotel.

Our wedding day went off without a hitch, all thanks to Katie, Tom and their amazing team. We could not fault a single thing, it was perfect and everything we could have hoped for.

The Walker Suite was fabulous and we were very grateful to be able to go into the room early, it made our morning relaxed and stress-free. The reception staff sent some champagne to the room which we felt was a lovely touch. We also noticed a newspaper in our room that evening which had been wrapped in purple tissue paper, we've yet to discover who placed it in our room but we have a feeling it was from the hotel staff. Katie assisted me (the bride!) when our registrar arrived and also when it was time to start the ceremony. She had a lovely sense of calm about her which of course helped me massively.

A million thank yous to Katie, Tim and their team, they did a fabulous job all day long and are a true credit to the hotel. Everyone worked so hard to make our day extra special, the layout of the room looked fantastic and all the timings went smoothly. Katie was very professional, if she needed to speak to me, she would catch my eye and then wait for me to finish what I was doing and make my way over to her. Katie was there when I needed her and then she worked in the background, as did all the staff, they did not get in the way and worked seamlessley together. The kitchen staff and chef deserve a huge thanks as the food was amazing, everyone commented on how delicious it tasted and the service of the food was quick and well executed.

Thankfully, our DJ arrived and did a fantastic job. We advised Tim and Katie of our concerns over the DJ and they kept us informed throughout the afternoon, advising us of two replacements they had on standby.

Basically, Katie and her team took any of the stresses of the day completely away from us and kept a calming and 'in charge' exterior which we greatly appreciated.

Thank you to everyone at the hotel for making our day one that we will never forget. We look forward to going back to the hotel on our anniversary.
