“Amazing tea room - well worth the trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

My boyfriend and I were meant to go walking in the New Forest for our anniversary weekend, but as it was raining hard we thought we would find something else to do. A quick glance at Tripadvisor revealed this tea house, and as cake and tea lovers, we thought we'd give it a go.

We were staying in Beaulieu but made the trip to Brockenhurst just to visit this place, and it is WELL WORTH the visit. We called to reserve a place, which is probably recommended on a weekend (especially if the weather is nice!), as the room is very small and only seats about 15-20 people max.

The service was excellent, and we ordered the 'Royal-tea' (see what they did there?) which was two scones, a selection of sandwiches, a selection of cakes, and unlimited tea. We got to choose exactly what sandwich fillings we liked (being vegetarian was absolutely no problem), whether we wanted a selection of fillings or same ones, and whether we wanted 3 large slices of cake or a selection of different ones (selection is recommended - as they are all delicious!). All served on cute tiered cake stands.

At less than £20 for two, it was a bargain for so much food. We couldn't even finish it, and were offered to take away the rest in a box (which was nicely boxed up for us). Again - absolutely no problem for staff who were all lovely and chatty.

The *only* downsides I can list (which give it 4 instead of 5 stars), is the toilet and music. As we had plenty of food, we were sat there for quite a while and the music was on repeat after only about 20min, which became quite annoying. The toilet was inside, but you had to go outside and through another door (in the rain). It was clearly not intended as a customer toilet as it also had other storage and even a boiler in it, and was quite run down. It was clean enough, but did let down the overall atmosphere of the place.

Overall though, top food, cake and tea, in a cosy tea room that I recommend to anyone visiting the New Forest!

“Wonderful cake and lovely people!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

my husband and I were returning from a weekend away when we had an unfortunate incident with the ford at the end of the road flooding our engine, so ended up popping in for comforting tea and cake while waiting for the AA man. Wonderful guinness cake and coffee, in fact I often make a well praised guinness cake of my own and this (don't tell a soul!!) was better.

Such lovely people too, as my husband was paying they offered us to stay and wait until they came for us, with a free refill. Such a nice and unexpected moment of human kindness, a light in an otherwise bad day.

“Really lovely :)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013

Came here with my mum and her cousin who were visiting me in Southampton from Kent. Booked a table the day before, phoned up and spoke to a lovely, friendly lady. The staff were friendly and attentive, nothing was too much to ask. Not usually a fan of scones, but these were DELICIOUS. I had a fruit scone, my mum had a cheese scone, so I had a bit of both. Best scones I've ever tasted. Will definitely be coming back for one of these with a pot of tea. Thank you!

“Saw that Rosie Lea's won Hampshire Tea shop of the year in 2012 so had to see what all the fuss was about - AN AMAZING PLACE!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013 via mobile

On a winters day in The middle of The New Forest, somewhere warm offering tea n cake was just what my other half and I needed!! Rosie Lea's is exactly how the perfect Tea Room should be. Tea is served in gorgeous old-fashioned pots and delicate cups and saucers... The service was perfect, the staff were dutiful and and friendly, and made us feel very relaxed... The atmosphere was homely and there was a great sense of warmth.

We opted for lunch AND cake in the end... Mostly due to the fact that the menu in this relatively small tea rooms was so varied and intriguing! There was so much choice and this extended to the home made cakes. Everything tasted BEYOND AMAZING.

We will definitely be visiting again when we're next in the New Forest, and I really hope Rosie Lea's defend their title for the 2013 Hampshire Tea Shop of the year - they deserve it!!!
