“The Watersplash - Cute & Caring”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

“A cynic is a man who looks at the world with a monocle in his minds eye”.

This was the saying which sprang to mind having read the majority of Watersplash reviews following a recent visit to the hotel with my gorgeous girlfriend Rhonda. For those whom approach this charming hotel with even a hint of cynicism- a hotel not held to ransom by unending need to adhere to the boringly generic home county aesthetic which plagues the neurosis of many a less self confident hotelier in the area - will have failed to see the charm this place has to offer.

Undeniably, it needs a dab of paint and a touch of love in some of its lesser cared for crevices to bring to the building itself to the climax of all it can offer. But this focus on the physical fails to see the point. To truly understand, you must get inside the heart of the Watersplash, leave you judgment at the door and experience the unseen bond it shares with the area and its people.

Never grandiose; it knows what it is, what it has to offer, and makes no excuse for resisting change. The words of my favorite reading sum this up better than mine ever could:

I don't want to be
Anything other than what I've been trying to be lately
All I have to do
Is think of me and I have peace of mind
I'm tired of looking 'round rooms
Wondering what I've got to do
Or who I'm supposed to be
I don't want to be anything other than me

Judging a place does not define what it is, it defines who you are. Open yourself wide to the possibility of what the Watersplash can offer, let it inside, and you will be a more fulfilled for it. Unless experienced, you will never know its joy.

There are better places to stay at a better price. There is a large garden to the front of the hotel that look nice.
There is good.walks in the the forest from hear. The hotel needs modernizing, in my room I found the wall paper to be coming off the walls in several.places. I woundt be staying hear agan.

We liked this place. It's not perfect; ; they are planning some much needed redecorating, and you can get a better dinner for the price at other places in Brockenhurst. But the breakfast is good, the location both convenient and idyllic and the staff are sweet. There is plenty space to lounge about in the garden or the edwardian sitting room and the tea garden is really great. We didn't use the pool but it looked fine and was heated.

Hotel is very tired and in desperate need of modernising. We went for a premier 4 poster room and paid £120 per night. Room was very shabby, no canopies on 4 poster making it an ordinary bed, shower rubbish, no hot water. Restaurant is very expensive and food presentation bad. I had to send my meal back 3 times for not being cooked properly and then cold when brought back and husband had finished his meal by then. Staff friendly but English is not their first language and struggled to communicate. Dog roaming restaurant put me off as well.

Room Tip: Don't book in this hotel

We booked the Watersplash as we were attending a party nearby and wanted somewhere close to stay. The hotel is very tired and rather dated and the bedroom very disappointing. Old and rather worn covers on the bed, scratchy single blanket, large cobweb in the corner and badly laid out - to boil the kettle you have to put it on the floor! The room was also very cold and the spare blanket was damp meaning we spent an uncomfortable night and were woken early by the thin, pale curtains.
There must be somewhere better to stay and the hotel isn't cheap - £121 per night - we left feeling tired and rather cheated.

Some of the other reviews on here are nothing short of unbelievable in their cruelty and harshness, and I wish reviewers would see The Watersplash for what it is;a good quality, friendly, family run hotel in beautiful surroundings offering excellent food in a comfortable, homely and welcoming environment The staff are friendly and helpful and the high number of guests that return year after year are testament to the affection that this hotel has earned. It boasts lovely grounds,in the heart of the New Forest,a mere 10 mins walk from the railway station and just a stones throw from the centre of Brockenhurst. The Watersplash doesn't claim to be The Ritz,if thats what you're looking for,go and stay at The Ritz, but if you would like a comfortable, relaxing and welcoming break in beautiful, peaceful surroundings, then The Watersplash is the place to be.

We booked into the hotel as we were attending a party here in the evening.
We arrived early and had a drink in the bar. Not really enough seats for everyone to be comfortable but we guessed they had removed some for the evening party.
The building is dated and tired.
Our room was ok, the decor was old and the bedding was dated and looking worn.
an hour or so before our party started we decided to shower, until that was we discovered NO Hot Water.
I went to reception and the manager just said "Oh". He actually said this three times and commented it was ok when he he showered, as if that meant it must be ok. I asked him what he intended to do to remedy this and he said he would check the boilers and come back to me.
15 minutes later i went to check on teh situation and he said the boilers were all ok. Pointing out we now only had 40 minutes to the party started, and still did not want cold showers, he said we could go to another room. Asked if this had Hot Water, I was told "No, it was tepid".
At this point we decided to leave and go elsewhere, which the owners seemed surprised at.

Luckily i found place just round the corner, which was modern clean, tidy and had Hot Water.
We walked to our party and had a great evening.

i would suggest you think long and hard about booking this place.

Room Tip: Book elsewhere!
