5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

my girlfriend & I stay for a long weekend over the august bank holiday weekend Friday night through sunday night we had a large spacious room with a very comfortable bed and two very comfortable arm chairs ensuite good sized bath
john & sue the owners were very friendly we stayed in one evening and the food was fantastic its a large guest house a bit dated but clean & tidy easy walk to the beach or town a matter of a few hundred yards in either direction well recommended
there is a hot tub

Room Tip: room 2 corner suite large & sunny

We had an enjoyable stay at the Bude, John and Sue were very friendly and helpful. The Guest House was clean and the room was spacious. We stayed in some evening and had evening meals which were excellent, the location was perfect for us. Hope to go back there again sometime.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front were very quiet

Just spent 2 nights at Bude Haven, The Hotel is really clean, with quiet comfortable rooms. Facilities are good with a comfortable spacious bar and lounge, Hosts are excellent, very helpfull and friendly. Breakfast was very good indeed, really good quality ingredients and perfectly cooked, with lots of choice. I went with my youngest teenage son who can be very fussy when it comes to food and he ate all the breakfast and declared it to be "beast" ( V good). overall the Bude Haven is excellent value and probably underpriced. will certainly stay there again.

I don’t quite like writing bad reviews, but really, I can’t help thinking I haven’t stayed in the same place as those giving good descriptions.

To start with the room. Ours was ugly, though clean and spacious enough. Completely outdated, I think the owners should have a stay at one of the other BnB in Bude, just to see how a clean and nice room looks like. There’s one 100m away I’ve stayed 3 times, for 20£ less a night, which has better rooms, owners who care and a way better breakfast too.
The bed wasn’t bad, but it was two beds, next one to each other. If you sleep close to your partner, you’ll have to pick a bed, and sleep on a single, as sleeping in the middle isn’t comfortable.

The bathroom wasn’t really functional. A seaside room with a useless shower isn’t great. We still could bath as the tap of hot water was working fine (the owner should think of getting rid of that separate bath/shower system, especially since the shower don’t work. So basically, to wash ourselves, we need to fill the bath, dip, empty, refill etc. And use a porcelain mug to take water in the bath to wash our hairs. Fun, but not what you expect.
It wasn’t really clean either. Not dirty, but not clean, and certainly not welcoming. The whole thing should have been refurbished 20 years ago, and you certainly cannot keep a curtain in that condition.

The breakfast was hardly ok. Now, I don’t eat English breakfast, so I might not be representative. The owner actually made very good pancakes (the only very good thing in the whole stay, I think it saved it from a single star), though the menu read “maple syrup”, and there was just a “maple taste syrup”. Didn’t taste like maple syrup though. Too bad, a near miss. I think for 80£ (compared to 60£ next door, with everything better) I could have had genuine maple syrup.
My wife likes honey on her toasts. While next door there was a choice of an upmarket brand and a local (delicious) honey, I couldn’t find any.

So overall, that wasn’t horrible, just very disappointing. 20£ more, same place, and not half as good, but then, when a room is available on 2 days’ notice in peak summer, you know what to expect !
Went there for Bude, rather than for the rooms, and Bude is a great place.

Very enjoyable visit, The hotel was very clean and spacious, John and Sue are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them, enabling you to have a pleasant stay. The food is very good (home cooked ) we enjoyed the back ground radio in breakfast room giving us information about local travel.Bude town is within walking distance, we shall be visiting again.

Clean, comfortable rooms and management very helpful. Slept well.
I would have preferred silence in the lounge and breakfasr room rather than the music which I found intrusive and not to my taste. Continental breakfast was OK but a slice of real cheese rather than dairy lea triangles would improve things, as would an oven hot (not micro-waved??) croissant. Overall, however, it was good value fo money.
