“A fantastic forest retreat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2013

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Forest Lodges. It was a lovely setting nestled in amongst the trees and really quite secluded. No one was on top of you. Our cabin (no 20) was ideal for 4 adults (one celebrating his 70th!). The beds were comfy and although we didn't have it on the wood burning stove was a great idea. There was everything we needed. We had family from nearby over for a family bar-b-q for the birthday boy and we all managed to enjoy being outside on the deck overlooking the Loch. There are lots of birds, even saw a pair of duks wondering around our cabin. There are plenty of fantastic walks either through the forest or along the loch side. We also hired cycles from the Forest Retreat and made good use of them. The Forest Retreat, a sort of central meeting place where there was lots of information and a place to have a snack or buy any essential groceries was a good "hub". The staff are all great. Very friendly and helpful. The weather wasn't the best all the time, but hey it's Scotland and the beautiful countryside more than makes up for the odd day of misty rain. There's heaps to do in the area and Callander is a great wee town. Can definitely recommend Mhor bread shop which has a great cafe and their Mhor Fish restaurant on the opposite side of the road was wonderful - my husband is still going on about his fantastic meal!
We will definitely be going back to the Forest Lodges and will take the dog as it will be his idea of doggy heaven.
ps The road was awful, but it was going to be overhauled in the next week or two and I'm sure that will be a big improvement.

Thank you for your kind review after your recent stay with us at Strathyre. I am delighted that the birthday celebrations were a success and it’s great to hear that you managed to enjoy both the forest and the surrounding area. Do bring the dog next time, he will love it!

Cabin 27.
Currently undergoing refurbishment of all the cabins on this site, and were all being painted during our stay. The road in IS AWFUL but will not kill your vehicle if you drive slow and dodge the potholes! From a first look you will notice the land is quite overgrown in places and could do with a lot of strimming, but it does no harm. in a four night break you cannot check in until 4pm and have to leave by 10am (unless you PAY extra); Not only this but you have to clean all the dishes etc that you use.
Staff were alright that we had contact with, pretty friendly and helpful. Hot tubs are checked daily and topped up with chemicals etc. Supplied with 2 dishwasher tablets, a tea towel and wash pad as well as all kitchen utensils, pots and pans.
HOT TUB IS EPIC.
Overall not a bad stay, pretty much £150 a day though which is crazy.

Room Tip: Lower number cabins located around shop in quite a public surrounding so not good for hot tubbing ha...

We're regular visitors to Strathyre having been members of the now sadly disbanded members club.

We've stayed in numerous occasions so for what it's worth here are my latest observations.

General maintenance not great, too many things need fixing, Our cabin had a door that wouldn't shut as it was warped. The lifting mechanism on the hot tub cover was broken. Ok if there were 2 of you but I struggled solo to open and close. Site badly needs the grass cutting and tidied up. The road, dreadful!

It's such a pity as could be a great site. The staff are lovely.

Dogs £10 per night per dog, too expensive.

Not sure we will go back and pay full price.

Stayed for 3 nights in cabin 16 to celebrate our 8th wedding anniversary. Was worried prior to our trip having read a few bad reviews... Oh my goodness I was blown away. The road was badly in need of repair on the way in but well worth the extra time it took to drive down it. The area is beautiful, the walks magical, the cabin (Golden Oak) luxurious and clean with all neccesary equipment, hot tub a dream and staff happy to help and friendly. The local village is also a delight to visit.
I cannot wait to book again and hopefully for a longer stay next time.

This was my first time staying at strathyre cabins and I had a really good time the staff were really friendly and helpful, it was very peaceful and relaxing just the break we needed we stayed in cabin 4 and it was very luxurious and the hot tub was excellent and just the way to end a relaxing day.

The General Manager of the Site Emma was very friendly and helpful as were the rest of the staff. I would highly recommend Strathyre for a relaxing break.

We had our honeymoon in the Golden Oak cabin at Strathyre at the beginning of May 2013. Firstly THAT road on the way in is unbelievably bad. I was very worried as we had a hire car for the trip and was concerned about damage. For this reason we will not be going back to Strathyre for our anniversary. However we will book another Forest Holidays resort as I have had heard many good reviews from friends.

The cabin was lovely, quite roomy, and the log burner and hot tub were excellent. The place was very clean when we arrived and I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. We booked number 16 which overlooks the road, this isn't very private and quite often we ended up chatting to people walking by so if you want privacy book further up the park.

We booked some activities which due to the weather we had to cancel but the refund was quick and Bill who led the activities was a great host, great sense of humour and a fab instructor.

Strathyre Cabins loses a point because of that road, when we phoned a local taxi company they refused to come pick us up because one of the cabs had received too much damage in the past. But gains a point back when sitting outdoors having breakfast you're entertained by deer and in the evening we had a visit from a pine martin (we called him Percy, say hi for us) not counting the numerous birds and other wildlife.

All in all a good stay but Forest Holidays you NEED to fix that road!!!

Room Tip: For privacy choose a cabin at the back, away from the road.

My husband and I stayed here for a lovely week in May. We stayed in cabin 33, which was a silver birch cabin. It was probably one of the more secluded cabins so the hot tub overlooked the forest and loch rather than the road. The cabin was finished to a really nice standard and even had a wood burning stove, which was an unexpected delight. The staff all very friendly.

The surrounding area was delightful. With stunning scenery and well marked out walks. We also managed to find some great places to eat. Eat Mohr Fish, is a simply stunning fish and chip shop in the near by town with the fresh fish I have ever tasted. Also The Crags Hotel had very friendly staff, interesting decor with quirky bits like old fashioned scales on the table. We had a wonderful venison tagine there and would highly recommend it to others visiting the area.

So the road leading up to the site is not great, there are pot holes and it does take a little careful driving. But don't let that put you off or overly concern. It is well worth the drive.

We loved it so much we will definitely book with Forest Holidays again.

Room Tip: We found it worthwhile booking the cabin we wanted off the map as recommended by another trip adviso...
