Family rooms can be hard to find in Europe; so, for our return trip to Scotland, we decided to go the B&B / Guest House route and we're sure glad we did. Immediately upon arrival, Rita told us that she'd had a cancellation so she was upgrading us!!! She put us in Upper Floor Rooms 2&3 (at least I think those were our rooms based on what I can see on their website www.auchenlaichfarmhouse.co.uk which is a bit out of date). The rooms were clean, spacious, well decorated and comfortable. Our room was en suite..from the looks of it, a sliding door closet was converted into a room for a shower stall and toilet. The sink was, conveniently, separate. The only negative was the low water pressure...but we encountered this at every B&B except one so I think it may just be that we are used to much stronger pressure. The safe was a nice touch as were the welcome trays (awesome cookies!). Our 5 year old was absolutely thrilled to discover the garden with play structure AND playmates (visiting grandkids, I believe). I was happy to discover all the reading material on the local attractions and my teenager was delighted to find a video library. I didn't spend much time in the lounge; but, my husband did and he found it quite comfortable. FYI, the website shows the conservatory as the dining room. It is now the lounge. Breakfast was tasty. well-presented, and served with style by Rita (as well as a charming, pajama clad child!) After tasting Bill's cooking and drooling over his incredible kitchen, I wish we'd opted to have dinner there the previous night! If you are planning a trip to this area, consider spending a few nights here. In addition to all the well publicized sites, there are some intriguing walking and cycling paths that we hope to get to next trip.
