“Visit to Callander”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

My first visit to Scotland and really enjoyed the Waverley and staff really nice and friendly. Food was really good too. I would recommend visiting this pub and loved the folk band on Saturday evening.

“Meanls tiny, and slightly overpriced + charged a currency conversion fee”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2013

Only had two meals here. The meals were tiny in size and about one GBP higher than the typical price we paid in the UK (though Callander is likely a pricier area).
The cod was about 1/2 the size I have previously had but tasty. Then you only have a choice of chips or salad (but not both..unless I guess you pay more0. For hungry hill walkers it wasn't enough. The lasagna was also tiny..and again not the veges and chips..but one of the other!
To top it off, we paid on visa and asked to pay in Pounds, but got charged in Aussie dollars and an added 3.5% added onto the bill to cover this unrequested currency conversion (Honestly, every soingle transaction from Jun 30th til we left , everyone charged us the fee and AUD , even though we insisted on paying in the local British currency. Some places reversed the transaction afetr I declined to sign, some just charged us in AUD anyway and said they couldnmt change it.
We have a mastercard that doesnt incur any currency conversion fess IF paid in local currency. You also void warranties /insurance protection of Visa/mastercard if you accept the merchants fee for conversion..or with visa I had one transaction last year chargesd in AUD instead of British Pound, then converted iback to the local currency where the transaction was processed, and then back again by Visa..so over 15% in fees.
Not value for money and an average looking pub, beer was 3.25 GBP (we were charged in the UK between 1.90, 2.25, 2.50, typical 2.75 or 3.00..and here 3.25..the most we were charged was 3.50 (gives an indication of meal prices here too for quantity based on Uk..6 weeks eating and drinking out).

“Tired but very clean rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013

Stayed here at short notice, do wish I had looked around as there were rooms and hotels everywhere. Good price and a very eat anything along with a cooked breakfast. Entertainment didn't turn up so was a bit annoyed with that, however plenty entertainment everywhere else. Busy bar with food, easily seen it is busy with locals.

“Serving a choice of meals early evening.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013

There aren't many places to obtain an evening meal after the normal cafes etc. close their doors about 5pm. We found the Waverley Hotel very convenient if you wish to eat between 5pm and 7pm with a reasonable choice at a reasonable price.
