We begun our journey at MM and it took the rest of the week to get over it, and this is why.
This hotel has the monopoly of this beautiful glen and therefore can charge pretty much what they please and they do. $700 ($850 with wine) is an awful lot of money for one night but I reckon it is this high because it is aimed at the honeymoon market, and lets face it when you are on your honeymoon in this beautiful glen, are you not going to think it the best night of your life anyway? and the money!? well parents are paying. Honeymooners are easy customers, they arrive with rose tinted spectacles and leave uncomplaining on the first days of their beautiful life.
For those looking for a luxurious retreat where you are going to experience something extraordinary by way of food and comfort, then this is not the place (but remember there are NO alternatives in the glen). The food was not particularily accomplished and was silly pretentious, served on, much hated by Gordon Ramsay square, triangular, rectangular dishes, it was laughable and the beds are doubled up zipped together singles (mind the gap) and the rooms heating was regulated from central control (with the gas log fires in situ just for effect as they are not even connected to the mains).
Now I am not wanting to entirely criticise this hotel, but when they are bold enough to charge $700 + for a nights dodgy bed, and mediocre food, then those of us looking for a comfortable night whilst not wanting to pay honeymooners prices are going to complain. A stone bath, plasma screen and quirky lamps doesn’t fool those of us looking for comfort in 'a certain style' BUT at an honest price.
Money was not the issue as we booked an expensive hotel, value for money was the issue. 700$ !!!
Our advice! Find somewhere outwith the glen and drive the 8 miles to be there for there for the day, have lunch there, and stroll around.
ps, beware of the extremely dangerous steam jet in the steam room, it could be the difference between a steamy honeymoon and a trip to A&E.
