This is our third visit to this hotel, yes it is old but rooms were clean as was bedding, we got clean white towels daily. Meals were excellent , very good choice of meal considering that we only paid £30 per night for bed, breakfast & evening meal with more food on plate than one could eat. Staff were very friendly and helpful at all times.
My husband uses a wheelchair, all of the staff were extremelly helpfull to him at all times.

Staff were very friendly and very helpful, yes the hotel could do with being updated but for what you pay its definately great value. 4 nights with dinner bed and breakfast for only £99. dinners were 3 courses with plenty of choice. Bedroom decor/furniture does need to be brought upto date but if you are out enjoying your holiday what difference does it really make when you only use them to sleep in. Clean rooms with clean beds and towel. Will definately return and recommend to my friends - thank you again to everyone at the hotel.

Management response from OHIML, General Manager
(Management representative)
Sep 25, 2009
I would like to apologies for their disappointment at the Dreadnought Hotel, we did have at that time have a few housekeeping issues but we have new staff now and hopefully these issues are resolved now. Most of our rooms do not have showers and the few rooms we have with showers are usually on request.

We only stayed for 2 nights and was out most of the 2 days on a short break.
Excellent food, special diets catered for.
Pleasent staff.
Lovely location, and views.
Good stop over location if you are travelling further around scotland.

Faded Victorian splendour but fantastic value for money

Firstly, let's keep things in perspective. We paid £69 each (booked with easybreaks.com) for a 2 night break which included 2 breakfasts and a 3 course dinner on both nights. In addition they threw in a free pass for 2 for the Callander Highland Games and a program, which would have cost us £14.
For this price, we weren't expecting a lot but were extremely pleasantly surprised. Yes, the hotel needs some serious money spending on it and is very typical of many slightly threadbare Victorian hotels throughout Scotland but, I feel, this often adds to their character. We were lucky enough to get a huge room on the 2nd floor with a great big bay window overlooking the river. Although it needed a lick of paint, the room was kept clean and I could live without a shower for 2 nights. Just take leisurely baths instead.
The food was quite acceptable without being spectacular and the service was invariably very good, both in the restaurant and the bar.
Car parking has been mentioned as a problem by previous reviewers and, indeed, there is only space for about a dozen cars in the hotel grounds. However, there are 2 public car parks within yards of the hotel and, at £2.70 for 24 hours, it hardly breaks the bank.
In short, this was an excellent base for a short break and represented quite superb value for money. Keep your expectations in perspective, remember what you spent and you will not be disappointed. I will return and would recommend others to do the same
