“great B & B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2007

Excellent B & B just off the busy main street (where much of the accommodation in Callander). It is walkable to all the restaurants and bars of which there are many.

The room was clean and bright and had everything you need. The garden was large and very well kept with plenty areas to sit out in.

The owners were friendly and helpful about all the restaurants and things to do in the area.

Very good breakfasts. All in all would definitely recommend this to anyone who is visiting Callander or passing through for a night.

  • Liked — close to town centre but off the main street, cleanliness.
  • Disliked — nothing

The location is about 40 miles NE of Glasgow and the same NW of Edinburgh so it's a good place to stay for a first exploration of the 2 Scottish cities and part of the Highlands.
The proprietors are very welcoming and have a great deal of free tourist information available.
We stayed for 4 nights, accompanied by some South African friends.
It's a lovely Scottish Victorian mansion, with beautiful garden - very well manicured lawn. The bed rooms are comfortable and the public rooms, lounge etc also.
The highlight is breakfast - enormous, full Scottish selection, the proprietor in kilt for the event!
It's within walking distance of the centre of the small town, where there are small restaurants and pubs. Particularly would mention Poppy's restaurant attached to guest house of the same name. Excellent dinner, but book beforehand.
The Lubnaig's details are in the Scottish Tourist Board brochure and the hotel has its own website.

Touring Scotland as a lone female, I must say my nerves were a little tattered by the time I'd driven to Callander from Glasgow by way of Loch Lomond, Loch Katrine, and the spectacular scenery of the Trossachs. Let's not even discuss driving on the opposite side of the road from what I'm used to nor the impossibly huge size of the rental automobile I'd been given. Needless to say, I was greatly relieved to discover the Lubnaig House on the fringe of Callander and be shown to my charming, spotlessly clean room.
Lubnaig House is named for Loch Lubnaig, located further out of Callander, and is but a short distance from the downtown area. All the rooms have a TV, a hairdryer, central heating, and a tea/coffee making facility. My room was so cozy that I felt like I was staying at a friend's house. While it does not offer a liquor bar or evening dining services, it does have an album of menus from local restaurants to make your dining decision easier.
The host and hostess are the soul of kindness and, as I mentioned above, the place is impeccably clean. There is a lovely side garden for days of nice weather, and the breakfast dining room looks out over the manicured lawn and flower beds. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
