When you find it the Gate House is a stunning old building and beautifully presented throughout, set in amazing grounds with a stunning outlook. The welcome is warm and very personal and the hosts only too happy to please. The property has a pool, summerhouse and grounds, the rooms are always spotlessly clean and tastefully presented.
If you want a base to explore Dartmoor, I think it would be hard to find a better place to get away from it all.
It is in the National Park so don't expect internet or mobile phone reception. You will need a map or sat nav (not standard gps on your mobile as it won't work) to find it as it is quite remote but that adds to the charm.
Other users have mentioned the access road which does look troubling but is actually ok once you have driven it a few times. The owners are happy to help navigate it.
The only real complaint is that the breakfast provided is not quite up to expectation. It is presented as a very traditional English fine dining with masses of crockery and bowls and plates and napkins. However, despite what the menu says, the fruit is obviously from a tin and the toast is like eating leather.
