We stayed at Lucknam Park for a short stay after we got married this summer. The hotel is beautiful, and we were upgraded without asking to a larger room, where champagne and chocolates awaited us on arrival. I loved the valet service, and the courtesy of all of the staff there. The grounds are beautiful, and you can enjoy a game of croquet or horse back riding on the extensive property. The food is delicious, worth the accolades, and the breakfast is fantastic. We rented a car and drove to Bath and took in the sights there. I also enjoyed 2 treatments in the spa, which were very good. Only comment is that the pool area could be made more luxurious in keeping with the rest of the hotel, but I know the hotel is in the process of doing this.
Definitely a place for a pampering weekend or romantic getaway without the kids!

Lucknam Park really is very, very good. We booked a Park Suite but were upgraded without asking to a Grand Suite.

The overall impression of Lucknam Park is a very well appointed, very friendly hotel. The staff are friendly, attentive, numerous and most of all professional. The hotel itself is beautifully presented - the public rooms are lovely and the bedrooms and bathrooms well decorated and modern. Despite having a picky eye I couldn;t find a single thing wrong.

In terms of the food the previous reviews are correct - beautiflly presented, well executed and even at £60 (a la carte) or £70 (tasting menu) good value. The cheese was great and there were two friendly sommeliers.

One thing to note it is eye wateringly expensive if staying in a suite but the overall experience is so good it ended up as good value. The spa is closed from end October 2006 for a complete rebuild.

Excellent hotel in a quite stunning location very near bath.
I found the grounds quite beautiful with its formal gardens bronzes etc.

The friendly horses where a very big plus for my 5 year old and the evening tasting menu was superb (although the accompanying 5 or 6 glasses of wine that came with it was too generous for our constitution).

The staff were excellent and the only minor niggle was the spa which is past its best. The hotel is aware of this and is building a quite amazing looking new one.

I will definitely consider revisiting when that is completed.

If you are after a beautiful, quiet, discreet, luxurious escape into the English countryside, with greenery as far as the eye can see, then you could hardly do better than Lucknam Park. At least that’s what I’ve concluded, which is why my wife and I now make a habit of visiting the place at least once a year. True, it’s by no means cheap, and the standard rooms are not exactly spacious, but one feels truly privileged to be a guest at such a place and the Michelin-starred restaurant is excellent (albeit some might find it a little intimidating and quiet – although by no means stuffy.) The equestrian centre is classy also, as is the spa; the latter is in the process of being expanded significantly, but the hotel seems to be taking special care not to let it interfere with one's enjoyment. Overall service levels are outstanding, although the hotel’s habit of recruiting very keen young Europeans can give rise to the occasional Python-esque experience.

Don’t come here expecting a swinging time (it represents a retreat, rather than a destination vacation) but if you enjoy a complete absence of tackiness, and a feeling of what it must have been like to own your own country estate a century or so ago, Lucknam Park is certainly worth a stay.

I have stayed at Lucknam Park a few times in the last few years, most recently in 2006. I decided to cease using it as the spa needed updating, so I am delighted to hear that the spa is closing at the end of the month for a revamp. As soon as it is open, I will be there for a weekend break: fantastic food, beautifully decorated rooms (great suites) and a lovely setting. Wonderful place to try a spot of riding too.

The staff make a huge effort to make you feel at home and remember your name from the outset. They take care of all your needs and you never feel as if the hotel is crowded. It's a good place to unwind, enjoy a very civilized stay and feel taken care of.
