“Great food in a historic location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

The food at the George is really good and they offer a great selection of traditional food and drink of course. Located in one of Englands most historic villages there is plenty to see and walk off the big lunch. Well worth a visit.

“Best risotto I've ever had”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2012

After initial disappointment at the limited vegetarian menu choice, we were very pleasantly surprised when the incredibly helpful landlady offered a range of freshly cooked alternatives - none of which were on the menu (she did however, explain that these options weren't always offered if the pub was very busy). They were incredibly accommodating to one of our party with rather specific dietary requirements and were exceptionally happy and obliging in every way.

The food was absolutely amazing. Rather effusive praise perhaps, but no exaggeration. The 'tailor made' risotto was the best I have ever eaten (and I've eaten a lot!) and the vegetarian dish from the menu was also fantastic. The service was exceptional, friendly and genuine. My only quibble would perhaps be rather expensive drinks but I certainly do not feel the food was overpriced in the slightest - definitely a huge step up from 'pub grub', more bistro food.

I cannot recommend The George highly enough, and will definitely return when I am in the area again.

“Lovely food, service and gardens”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012

Having driven past this beautiful old pub many times, we felt it was time to give it a try - and we are so glad we did! We had a friendly welcome from the landlady and were made to feel at home straight away. We ordered lunch and were spoilt for choice for great places to eat our meal as there was a conservatory plus two gardens (one non-smoking) to choose from. The food was really delicious and freshly prepared - we liked the fact the chef sources food locally wherever possible. My ploughmans was simple, but each ingredient was of a very high quality. We definitely will be back. They also make delicious fudge!!

“Very friendly, good food and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2012

Stopped off for lunch in the way back from Devizes as the pub looked very inviting from the outside.

Inside, it more than lived up to what I was hoping. Food was very good, not overly fussy but imaginative high-quality "pub grub" using excellent local ingredients and presented well.

The service was wonderful - the owners and waiting staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the whole place felt very relaxed and welcoming.

A very good example of a great British pub.

“What A Country Pub Should Be”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2012 via mobile

Take time to drop in to The George Inn for delightful food, a more than adequate selection on the menu, and a level of service and warmth often forgot in lesser establishments. At a time when support for such inns is dwindling, the staff at The George deserve your custom and you deserve the delights they serve.
